The original sign was about 2 foot square and just had 'THIS IS ANFIELD' in white letters on a red background. This one dates from the mid 80's I believe.

I love and adore Jurgen Klopp (see above), but am I the only one who thinks this is a bit silly? Touching the sign is surely a sign of affection. I don't know why doing it having won nothing would be disrespectful. 

 

(I'd add that Klopp only mentioned this was a thing after we'd won something. Perhaps it was never a rule in the first place.)

I quite like the rule that you've have to earn it to be honest. This club is bred on success and imagine how proud the players felt after winning the CL and then getting permission to eat the apple in the garden of Eden.

Yeah, but even I’ve touched the sign and I’ve won fuck all. I earned it by paying a few quid to get in and do the tour which I’m sure the majority of people on here have done at some point. Why should the likes of Chris from Croxteth, Geoff from Grimsby, Sven from Stockholm, Les from London and Damian from Widnes have the right to touch it whilst Salah and Mané have to ‘earn’ it?

If you and those other blokes were all extremely talented footballers and had Shankly or Klopp telling you to touch the sign or not, before playing for Liverpool at home, maybe you’d win things as well.

I couldn't quite reach the sign when I went on the tour due to the fact I'm a shorthouse!! (I thought I could but the steps went down at the wrong point!!)
