Well the last few years or so has really shown how bad these platforms can be. I guess the same as the net in general. What should be a unbelievable tool of information and communication is destroying any type of community a d just turned into a propaganda machine for shills and political nonsense to keep everyone fighting each other. Trying to find anything that isn't some 'growth coach', 'wannabe doctor' or just plain disgusting trolls is near impossible. No matter how much you block them they end up on your feeds.

Deleted the lot tonight, baring Facebook which I don't use and goes as soon as I get a kickstarter project delivered, only kept the Facebook to try and sell it on the group chat when it arrives.

Stuff like twitter is tremendously dangerous in situations like what's happening in the middle East.

It's algorithms are primed to "maximise engagement" and that's usually done through prompting outrage.

Lots of fake stuff (there's videos footage from call of duty being passed off as Hamas attacks on a kibbutz), plus because he sells blue ticks now anyone can appear to be verified and trusted even if they're not.

People like Musk are megalomaniacs pure and simple, they're extremely dangerous during times like this, as he's already proven with Covid and Ukraine.

Elon Musk is considering the possibility of blocking access to Twitter users in EU countries to avoid falling under the influence of new regulations adopted by the European Commission, according to Business Insider.

According to sources within the company, Musk is becoming increasingly disillusioned with the need to comply with the Digital Services Act. The possibility of closing access to the platform in the region or blocking access for users in the European Union is being seriously discussed by company executives.

The Digital Services Act came into effect in August and requires large online platforms to have effective and transparent moderation systems and to remove misleading, harmful, and abusive content.

Another reason why Brexit was a massive fuck up.

Pushing back against the surge of misinformation online, California will now require all K-12 students to learn media literacy skills — such as recognizing fake news and thinking critically about what they encounter on the internet.

Gov. Gavin Newsom last month signed Assembly Bill 873, which requires the state to add media literacy to curriculum frameworks for English language arts, science, math and history-social studies, rolling out gradually beginning next year.
