As for Henderson, I don’t mind him as a player, but the passing thing is always in need of more detail to make the discussions meaningful. The first obvious thing to note is that the deeper you go, the more of your passes will be forward. Henderson often tucks in between the central defender to receive the ball and start to build the play as they fan out a bit wider. Apart from when teams are pressing us with energy and numbers, it’s very easy to make a forward pass at that stage.

Henderson's issue is between his ears. Bags of natural footballing ability but little imagination,

He has it drilled into him to protect the ball and when he has time to consider where he passes far too often he goes sideways to one of the CB's. If you compare that to Lallana or Coutinho when they drop deep they are always looking for the turn to beat a man or a forward pass out wide or through the channels. Henderson wont change now and the decision is whether long term you want him as captain and doing the limited amount he does in midfield. Today yes but I wouldn't lose sleep if he went next summer as part of a planned upgrade .

No stats are going to tell me after watching Henderson countless tines he is anything spectacular as a midfielder but i do think there is a place for him in the squad/team.

He gets a load of flack because he is captain and let's be honest a bit of a shithouse (if I didn't think it before then after the Utd game and Lukaku smashing Gomez while Jordan fixes his socks then that confirmed it), if he wasn't captain I honestly don't think he'd get as much stick. I'm just hoping Keita comes in and he is made it or Vvd if we get him in.

His main weakness in his current position is his lack of real ability to tackle. His passing is okay. Not the most perceptive, but some of the most effective DMs aren’t (weren’t) ambitious passers of the ball e.g., Didi, Kante, Matic, Gilberto Silva.

Henderson isn't being played purely as a DM.  He's responsible for switching play, setting tempo, etc.  Compared to Alonso (whose role was most similar) he still has a lot to learn.  His switches are too slow and too unimaginative, his appreciation of the use of tempo etc is only rudimentary.

To me that's a bigger issue than his ability to do the real DM role.  Can and Gini do that role as much as the 6 anyways, just much further up the pitch as Klopp prioritizes proactively protecting the offence, rather than waiting for the ball to be lost and then reactively protecting the defence.

the only play Henderson switches is from one CB to the other.

No where near as bad or even as average as some on here paint him to be. There's better out there but he's a good player. His injuries always seem to stop him from stepping up a level he's in a constant battle to regain former form and then when he gets there he gets injured.

Agree with this.

For some reason many of our fans feel compelled to sort players into two categories and two categories only: either they're world-class or they're crap.  In reality ability is a spectrum, like anything else.  Jordan Henderson is a pretty good player.  Not a great player, not even close to a world-class player, but not a complete donkey either.

The problem is that he seems to be the only player Klopp really trusts at the base of our midfield, and that while he's certainly good enough to be a quality backup/squad player for us, he's not really consistent or talented enough to be a regular starter.

Does Jordan Henderson:-

Score -X

Create -X

Win tackles - X

Win headers when attacking or defending our corners / free kicks - X

Win headers anywhere - X

Protect his back 4 -X

Drive the team on from losing positions - X

Jordan Henderson is a nothing player and persisting with him as our captain and a centre mid is one of the major reasons we have won nothing in years.

To give him some credit, he does win the pre match toss up now and then.

Germany national team general manager Oliver Bierhoff has spilled the beans that Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka will move to the Premier League.

The Germany international has been linked with a move to Liverpool and Arsenal, with the former reportedly seeing him as an ideal replacement for Emre Can if he was to leave Anfield for nothing in the summer.

Tottenham are also understood to be confident of landing the Bochum-born midfielder, who has scored six goals in 12 caps for his country.

Goretzka lifted both the Silver Boot and Bronze Ball at last summer’s Confederations Cup in which Germany triumphed.

And it now seems his future is made up with Bierhoff claiming that he will join international team-mate Leroy Sane in the Premier League.

Bierhoff let slip in an interview with the Guardian about the Premier League, he said: “We feel that England, because of the amount of money you have with TV rights, young talented players like Leroy Sané and [schalke’s] Leon Goretzka are moving to England and this is not good for our league but also for the quality of our game.

“We have to pay attention and invest again and again in the education of our coaches.”
