It is indeed and makes the record against the top six all the more spectacular.

Keep it up for the second half of the season and we'll have cl football to attract players that actually are of their calibre.

Haha, nice to see you stopped calling them the 'big clubs'!

Haven't seen us play like that since 08-09 under Benitez.

We've done a lot of good things this year but I haven't seen that kind of performance.  Just kept the second-best attacking team in the league (after us) from having a shot after the 60th minute.

Seriously, felt like we were right under the cosh there but they didn't even get a shot.  That is Benitez-esque.

Ive seen terrible refereeing performances many times, but I've never seen a linesman as bad as the one on the centenary sideline. 3 separate times the ball had crossed by a comfortable margin and he missed each of them.

Not the best game by a long shot, but a great result. What a bullet of a header from Gini.

The game as a whole was characterised by a lot of very sloppy play from both sides, interspersed with spells where City dominated possession without really looking threatening. I can't remember either goalkeeper actually being tested, and I can only remember two goal attempts from City, both in the second half - a pea roller from Aguero from about 30 yards, and one just wide from Silva from the edge of the box. Other than that, we kept them at bay relatively comfortably even if the game was in the balance throughout with such a slender advantage.

I think that nowadays the old adage of "taking each game as it comes" doesn't apply when a team has to play two games in quick succession. All the decision making is designed to take in game management for both games together so they become more about playing for the result instead of going hell for leather.

On our part, there were a lot of moments where we took the wrong option when we got into a decent position. Two moments in particular stand out. In the first half, Firmino took too long to release Lallana when they'd mugged Toure and found half the pitch to themselves. Lallana ended up running offside. The second was in the second half when Mane found space in the centre circle and had great options left and right. He chose to pick out Firmino on the left instead of picking out Origi on the right. Both options were in acres on space but Origi had the legs on Kolarov and had the choice of going for goal or squaring to an unmarked Firmino. Firmino didn't have two options because playing in Origi would have found the Belgian running offside. The ball to Firmino wasn't great either and pushed him wide.

There were also a lot of moments where we gave the ball away cheaply, sometimes in dangerous areas. The communication between the players was a bit off, as if they expected a certain run that didn't come.

Still, we need to know whether we can cope in match situations like this where the team isn't firing on all cylinders.
