Partner in a private security business.

Used to be sole owner, but it was too much.

Not exactly Blackwater (thank fuck) but along those lines.

A mate spends a lot of time around Cambodia, Asia, Phillipines etc and knows a few ex forces lads that do private work, mainly on boats.

Reckons they're all a good bunch and a good laugh.

I think mostly it's because they rarely take things seriously until they have to.

There's enough serious shit goes on without dragging it into the downtime you get.

There's no need for bonding sessions with those kind of lads, they all know what they have to do, and they all know to watch each others backs.

We mostly do other places, but I know a few lads that work in Asia.

It's a pretty small world in that line of work.

A good friend of mine's brother died in tanzania I think it was a few years ago doing the same thing. he was ex forces, fit as a fiddle, doing some security work and died in his sleep. Although the family have been fighting to find out more info.

He reckons it's pretty much self policing.

It's short term contracts and if you're a prick you don't get any more work. Simple as that.

The outward journey maybe but you couldnt pay me enough to do the return escort on my own

£600 for sitting on your arse, RA's in place stating you only need one member of staff.*

*Of course I'd want to know who wrote the RA and what information they had but I'd happily get on the plane without them if I'd been stitched up.

Sorry to hear that.

We have nothing to do with any African contracts.

Heard some real horror stories.

You have to understand that there are plenty of dodgy firms, and anyone looking for work in this line would do well to steer well clear of them.

It's always best to ask around. There's always someone who knows the score who can point blokes in the right direction.

Assuming the criteria for detention is broadly similar to ours....risk to self or others.... I'm questioning the need for detention if its been assessed as a one person job. Still not persuaded

The business has its share of mad cunts who think that they can do what they want because they are in the back of beyond and no longer bound by RoE.

At the same time, there are less reputable companies that'll take anyone on.

We have some ex special forces, marines and para's.

All good lads and all know their jobs.

The last thing you want in a dodgy situation is some cunt who thinks he's rambo.

He's not daft, if he's been stitched up he gets on the flight back alone.

I don't know the exact details but it wouldn't surprise me if the guy is coming to the UK under false pretences.

A mate of mine came out of the Paras about 18 months ago at RSM and now does anti-piracy on ships in the gulf. He finds it a bit dull but the money is good. It also gives us loads of ammo for jokes win/win.

Para's are great, fucking mad bastards the lot of them.

First met a few when I was doing my jump training, and it's a bit weird how they switch from slagging the shit out of you one second, to dead serious the next.

We'd be wheeling around on these little trolleys learning how to get stable in the air, and there'd be half a dozen of them ripping the absolute piss out of us.

Funny as fuck.

Dear Colin

We would like to thank all staff for their feedback at the most recent consultation exercise. We value input from all our dedicated staff even if your views strongly opposed the option we have selected.

Kind regards

So it's just a bollocks PR exercise and they've already decided how they're going to slash salaries.

But they've wasted fuck knows how many tens of thousands of pounds on Anon Hewitt to try and make themselves look better.

Letter in the post Friday, they didn't even go for the middle option of pretending to listen to staff, they fucked us over and went with the worst of the 3 options.

At my old place part of one year's soul-destroying prostitution for pay rise and promotion involved mandatory attendance at a 'Diversity Workshop', run by the archetypal person who's devoted too much time to courses in being a good machine, and none at all to thinking for herself. She now carefully guarded her ticket; mirroring what she imagined other people's prejudices were back at them, before delivering a succession of contrived non-committal responses to whatever they said, while remaining impassive.

She was intimating that we're subconsciously bigoted and unable to accept all forms of life equally. To prove this, she started spraffing on about how differently we'd surely feel about the place if we came in one day to find it run by homosexuals, with an entirely homosexual management and workforce, other than ourselves. How uncomfortable would it make us feel? Wouldn't we be appalled? How did we justify denying that?

The sheer offensiveness of lecturing people you've never met before about the need to be open-minded and decent towards all fellow humans on behalf of a bastion of rapacious American corporate power aside, her angle was so painfully ridiculous, desperate and implausible, I could only openly snort.

"Well. You don't agree. Please, tell me how you think it would change the company for better or worse?"

"They'd have to change their name to 'JPMorgan Chase Me'."

"Oh. I see. Let's move onto implicit racism."

That old Bernard maxim of having met a far better standard of person in the gutter than the boardroom never stops ringing true.

A mate of mine did a similar course in the army. He was the only soldier there, the rest being (in his words) bummers from the navy and padres and such like.

The course leader kept trying to goad him into making a racist/sexist comment but he resisted until the last day, the conversation as he tells it went...

Tutor: Mick, in the north there is a working men's club that doesn't allow women to go to the bar, what do you think of that?

Mick: That's terrible in this day and age, ma'am

Tutor: At the same club women aren't allowed in the snooker room under any circumstances. What do you think of that?

Mick: I don't think it's true ma'am

Tutor: oh it is Mick, I can assure you!

Mick: Well who cleans it?
