Lawyers want to appeal to Supreme Court

 

Paul Diamond says he wishes to apply for permission to appeal to the Supreme Court.

 

He argues that the Supreme Court ‘got it wrong’ ‘and that ‘only they can reconsider their verdict’

 

Michael Mylonas and the guardian for Alfie argue that permission should not be granted and that the Supreme Court has already heard the arguments.

I can't believe that Diamond ran with a parental rights trump the child's best interests argument.

 

Different circumstances, but what about FGM? If the parent's want the child to have the procedure and the courts/authorities are attempting to stop it?

 

Under Diamond's logic, the procedure should be carried out as the parents wishes are more important than the distress a child will suffer from having their genitals chopped up.

It's heartbreaking for the parents. I can't imagine going through that. But... people are in heartbreaking situations all over the world every day. There will be kids and parents in that hospital right now going through tragedy. What they don't need is rent-a-chavs playing footy outside.

 

Unfortunately it looks like the parents just need to let go, which I know is easy to say. How could you switch off the life support keeping your child alive? Terrible stuff all round.
