I must be the only one who doesn't think he'd come in and work some immediate miracles. His record speaks for itself but he built that side over time, spent big when he had to and had an outstanding youth setup. He seems quite softly spoken and laid back, and by his own admission pretty fucking knackered. It'd be an exciting appointment in dreamland like don't get me wrong, but he'd still be working with average players and a shit scouting network. Is he the type of manager who can motivate limited players to play above themselves?

Pep seems old school to me. Despite what he may say I'd think the idea of managing classless cunts like Chelsea or City would be stomach churning for him. Ruling out every other Spanish side it really only leaves a handful of sides in Italy and England that he would work for. Can't see him coming here right now but I wouldn't rule it out in a few months when Martinez or Rodgers are about to be sacked.

To be fair, Martinez has more experience than Guardiola. Also, with the talent in that Barcelona side, I reckon I could have been their manager and they would still have beaten just about any team put before them...

As Fungus said, could he still do the job without the squad crammed full of world class players? Given the alternatives, I'd risk it!

As others have said though...will never happen.

Kinell.

Barca hadn't won anything for 2 years before Guardiola took over.

About a third of the current Barcelona squad are players he coached/managed as B boss, and then went on to bring through when in charge of the first team.

They had, of course done the double and the CL triple the two previous years.

More on topic might be the few years prior to Rijkaard and Van Gaals record compared to those two since he is in the frame and the other two are not.

"Is he the type of manager who can motivate limited players to play above themselves?"

That's the only question to ask. It's one thing to get great, or even just good, players to play their best but quite another to get the kind of players we have to play above themselves.

Does anybody really think there is all that much to know about football, enough to make a difference between Kenny and Roy, or MArtinez and Lambert? Not in my experience.

It comes down to who can get the most out of players for 90 minutes, 38 games, with as few mental, emotional and lazy slip-ups as possible. That's what Ferguson does and we don't.

What the fuck do they put in the water in Norway.

This thread has more pixie dust than that "4th is still possible" abortion.

Is fourth still possible? 68 points should do it.
