1 Maxi good all round game, goal capped it off for him

2 Soto Gave the Bolton frontline a taste of their own medicine, and again a big threat at set plays.... really liking this lad at the moment

3 Lucas, kept things ticking over, played sensible football and covered the park well today. Reliable! What im liking aswell is that he'e turning with the ball now in midfield and playing the ball forward accurately, its way better than is sideways game

Honorable mention to Skrtel, thought him and the Greek were in a real battle all game today, and both handled it well

Maxi - I've already mentioned how much better he looks when his teammates are mobile and offering options, because he's capable of finding space. And so it proved.

Kyrgiakos - relished the physical battle with Davies and I would say it was 50/50. Very effective display from the Greek again. It helps that he's not given to panicking.

Lucas - kept it simple but was always pressing and won the ball back several times. Offered mobility in the first half in particular.

The team stepped up a gear in the second half, particularly in the last 15 minutes, and looked better for it. My own views on Roy are much in evidence on these forums, but he would have been well within his rights to kick Gerrard up the arse for his first half display, which was spineless and lacking energy. If he did indeed have words, they had the desired effect as Gerrard looked more interested in the second half, and with it, so did Torres. The strange move was to shunt the previously very good Meireles out wide, which resulted in him fading out of the game completely.

All in all, not great, and still much work to be done. But a welcome 3 points puts us in mid-table, which is Roy's natural home.
