Well I like it so bollocks. I'm not a HUGE REM fan but I like a lot of their earlier stuff like Low, Orange Crush, Religion etc etc. This, for me, is in the same envelope although it does smack of tongue in cheek too.

I was listening to 'Out of Time' in the car this morning on the way to work. I've decided that Shiny Happy People belongs in the same envelope as "Near Wild Heaven" which isn't a bad tune. It's interesting how they make the leap from happy clappy pop to something more majestic like Contry Feedback or Half A World Away. It's what makes me think that the lyrics to SHP are somewhat tonge in cheek, given the depth of feeling and despair is so evident in some of their other material from the same era.
