The Queen Not Being Invited to the Normandy Anniversary

Whatever you think of the royals, a pretty shithouse gesture from the French here.

BBC NEWS | UK | Charles invited to D-Day events

Apparently they've compromised after Charles basically invited himself. But if I was a British veteran I'd be well pissed off, especially as she's the only head of state who actually remembers the fucking thing.

The Obama team having to negotiate to get her invited was also a humiliating low point IMO, considering the British and Canadians actually landed more troops on D Day than the Americans did - although most people probably don't even know we were there. The French turned up for the last 10 minutes, then pulled out of NATO.

They always seem to rattle their sabres at the wrong people, the French, give it another few weeks and Sarkozy will be up Medvedev's arse on some issue or other.

Of course the French don't want her there, and sideline the "Sarkozy/Obama" show?

Come on.

I remember Howard Stern on TFI Friday about ten years talking about the French attitude of arrogance & superiority to the British & Americans.

"You should be kissing our Limee/Yank asses and thanking us."

The Royal Family are all parasitic cunts. The D-Day Anniversary should be for the brave soldiers who lost their lives or who we injured protecting this country. By turning up and pretenting to be interested in the ceremony does not justify their (The Royle Family) fucking ridiculous lifestyle.

God, I fucking hate the Royals. I wonder whether Andrew wants to go, or does it clash with a golf game?

How so? I read that he could have demanded she be invited, but he shouldn't have had to.

The policy was that we would only celebrate the 70th anniversary (shamefully). Then Brown heard Obama was going to be there and he couldn't dare miss that photo op. So he wants to go but forgets the Queen, as the Head of State, should be there also. Instead of pressing for her to go, he doesn't bother as it would take some of the limelight off him. Eventually it blows up in his face, as you would expect.

As the Dog says, he has a reverse Midas. For someone in his position, the blatant lack of a political antenna to sniff out this sort of potential trouble, is quite impressive.

Not a fan of the Queen or her kith and kin but the bottom line here is that she was forgotten as everyone else is falling over themselves to kiss Obama's ass/

The real tragedy is not that the Queen is not going but that instead of remembering what these brave men did and remembering those who died where they will be standing people will be talking about the Queen not being there and people will be trying to get a better pic with Obama. The memory of those soldiers deserves better and the whole lot of them should be ashamed.

Come on. These things are never about remembering soldiers; if these people honestly gave a shit about simple soldiers, they'd never put them in harm's way over something as trivial as oil.

These things are always more about political manouevring than anything else. Backroom chats, photo ops. They're more like unofficial summits than anything else.
