Furious Fergie in Benitez blast

Friday, 17 April 2009 12:32

Alex Ferguson has accused Rafael Benitez of 'arrogance' and showing 'contempt' in his dealings with fellow Premier League managers.

The Liverpool chief has been in combative mood recently, on several occasions launching verbal volleys at Ferguson.

And ahead of Sunday's FA Cup semi-final with Everton, Ferguson has hit back with a withering assessment of Benitez's conduct.

First he lambasted the Spaniard for his description of Everton as a 'small club' before rounding on him for the attitude he showed in dismissing Blackburn last weekend once Liverpool had scored their second goal at Anfield.

'Everton are a big club, not a small one which Benitez arrogantly said,' said Ferguson.

'But arrogance is one thing. You cannot forgive contempt, which is what he showed (Blackburn manager) Sam Allardyce last weekend.

'When Liverpool scored their second goal he signalled as if the game was finished. I do not think Sam deserved that.

'Sam has worked so hard for the LMA (League Managers' Association) and he's had a weakened team. I just thought it showed contempt.

'In my experience no Liverpool manager has ever done that. It was beyond the pale.'

The tirade should enliven the Premier League title battle when it resumes next week, although Ferguson will feel justified in making the attack.

Benitez had delivered what he claimed to be 'facts', about United which the Red Devils do not believe to be true.

And while Ferguson has tried to resist the temptation to respond, this time he felt he needed to make a stand against the Liverpool manager, who feels more sure of his ground after finally steering his club into championship contention despite this week's Champions League exit at the hands of Chelsea.

I thought the hand gestures were because we'd just scored a header from a set piece against a team that was using man to man marking, after we had taken so much flak about conceding 2 headers using zonal marking against Chelsea.

Also, Allardyce is a cunt.

By the way, maybe the wrong thread, but I just can't understand people wishing (even jokingly) injury, illness or death on anyone, especially anyone who's main offence is to act a bit of a cunt.

Surely we of all people should know the difference between football and life and death.

Hahaha' date=' gotta spread rep around or else I would've.

Bit harsh?

Agreed, but you might have to tell another few hundred on here too if you're really bothered by that.

Benitez Responds To Fergie Rant

Friday 17th April 2009

Liverpool Echo

By David Prentice

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has responded to claims made by Sir Alex Ferguson that he was disrespectful to Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce after the second goal in the game at Anfield.

'Are managers not allowed to smile when their team score? I was simply gesturing to my players to remain calm as we still had a job to do. He (Ferguson) has been drinking again, no?' said Benitez.

*Ok, this isn't real. But we can hope.

Fergie the twat, just read what he said now too. I'm not sure if that's seriously calculated or not. When you think of when Rafa has done this we've gone on to lose or have a bad result next game haven't we? Well Fergie has done this at a time when he's about to play Everton in the semi's, and wouldn't that be the least important match coming up for him?

Edit : ah yeah, and obviously our biggest match. He's picked his time for this, and we're just gonna have to try and foget about it, or hope that it spurs the team on to play better.

I'm probably just being mega paranoid, but if Fergie has the same backfire effect they're out of the FA cup, and that's the one he'll be least bothered about. Now we have to hope Rafa doesn't have any more digs, because I get the feeling it kind of jinxes us. Maybe he'll just carry on and we'll eventually win the next game, but I don't like it. And it's possible that Fergie has realised this and he's hoping it happens again.

Either way, if our manager having a dig at Slur is jinxing us, then what's the point? We can't just listen to/put up with his shit and not say anything, so we just have to hope that eventually the players just see this as a seperate issue and know that on the pitch it's another thing entirely. Just gotta hope that if it gets really nasty it doesn't affect his judgement during matches with tactics/subbing/formation, etc.

If we win the league this season it'll just be so fucking huge. And also if we do, can you imagine Rafa talking about Fergie after it? Actually I think he'll realise it's over if so, and just leave him to it. Maybe then it'll be Slur giving shit and Rafa just brushing it off, because he won't see him as being worth it anymore. And then of course if we don't, next season could be full of this type of stuff. It could maybe tire us and mancs fans alike though in that case.

Hang on a tic.

He'd done this intentionally, in the hope that it will negatively impact his own team, and they'll lose tomorrow thereby easing their fixture congestion for the rest of the season?

I know I might seem a bit melodramatic here but this is slightly worrying, two managers indulging in a co-ordinated attack on another manager!!

Seriously wouldn't both press conferences take place at a similar time? How did Fergie know what he said? If they have done this they should be hauled up for it, I think the club should get involved now, fuck it.

Why's demento so irritated about the 'small club' comments now you have to ask yourself? Rafa said it years ago and not a peep from him then or any other occasion when he's played them since. If this is mind games from a master (Copyright: Murdoch corporation), that don't impressa me much.

Poor attempt to have a dig at us and butter up the Blueshite at the same time. Someone on here once wrote that Fergie only praises those he doesn't see as his rivals (as he did about our title chances last year), so he's actually dismissing Moyes and Everton. I take comfort from his non-praise about us.

That reads a lot like a rant, to me.

just watched it on BBC, i would like to see what body language experts make of the very last second re his eye movements. Just looked like he didn't believe in what he was saying. That should be reported as a fergie rant and fergie's cracking up but it wont be.

How do those idiots know what rafa was thinking? Also rafa said smaller club not small club.

If we don't win the league, it will have been worth it to see somebody get under his skin.

He's not happy unless he's having a verbal scrap with title rivals. He's done it with Wenger and Mourinho in recent years.

Moyes and Allardyce should be ashamed to be his pawns.

I look forward all the headlines such as "FERGIE CRACKS UP IN FACE OF RAFA MIND GAMES" and total losers like mark Larenson saying things like, "haha, you just can't beat Rafa when it comes to mind games. Ferguson should know better. Ho ho ho"

Oh no wait.... that's only when it's the other way round isn't it....
