We made an expensive mistake with Cisse but the other French players we signed were not for much - even the new Zidane (Cheyrou) cost £4.5m. It's not about nationality, it's about quality. Latin players can also flop, look at Gonzalez, so was Josemi, so was Morientes, Palletta, Leto, Nunez, Pelligrino and the jury is out on Lucas.

 

As I said, buy top end and the risk minimises no matter what the nationality. Pires, Henry, Vieira, Gallas etc tells you that.

Ben Arfa is a very good player, no one can claim he's not, he has played some fantastic football this year, then he was phased out of the team because he had problems but major player from Lyon, as Benzema or Coupet ...

 

Ben Arfa is known as a difficult character and he is gone for sure, but it's not clear where he'll be going.

 

Benzema won't come to us, He's said several times he'll stay in Lyon at least one more year and he has revealed the team he supported as a kid was Real Madrid ... It can't be clearer than that !

For 11.8million, the reported fee, I think we should snap that up. Flog world beaters Yossi and Pennant and you'd have most of that fee.

 

Its a bit of a gamble but would be well worth taking.

Exactly. If it's so obvious that this kid is going to be great it's more than a little strange that none of the big clubs are after him for the price quoted.
