A BBC Sport editor has been forced to issue an apology after he was caught on tape mocking a victim of the Leicester City helicopter tragedy.

Dan Roan was filmed making offensive comments about the marriage of Foxes boss Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

Microphones picked up the broadcaster as he made the remarks to a producer while standing alongside the King Power memorial.

Srivaddhanaprabha was one of five people on board the aircraft when it crash landed soon after taking off from the King Power Stadium.

Footage of the off-air conversation appeared online and sparked outrage amongst football fans on social media.

Roan later issued a grovelling apology on Twitter.

He wrote: “Just want to say sorry for some comments made in a private, off-air conversation earlier with a colleague.

“Absolutely no offence intended.”

A BBC spokesperson said: “This was an ill judged comment made in a private off air conversation for which Dan has apologised.”

Thai billionaire Srivaddhanaprabha was on board along with pilot Eric Swaffer, his partner Izabela Roza Lechowicz, who was also a pilot, and two members of Srivaddhanaprabha's staff, Nursara Suknamai and Kaveporn Punpare.

Fucking cunt ......hope he gets the boot...

having seen the above post i wanted to know what horrific thing he said to mock the victims that will cost him his job. He said the younger women who died was the Mistress of the owner of the Club.

Seriously am i missing something here?

At best its ... well what exactly?

Maybe a bit insensitive ? although thinking about it that seems to be the biggest crime in the world today.

A bit disrespectful IMO, not very nice for his family to hear, especially if it wasn’t true.

There looked to be smoke coming off the tail rotor before it left the pitch. He obviously thought he could stabilise it once airborne. It comes down at some fucking speed. The only positive is it looks like at that speed, death would have been instant.

It's tragic.

He had a very good life though, better than billions of people will ever experience. Fuck all you can do when your time is up.

It would be some small crumb of comfort to know that lessons could be learnt from the inquiry regarding possible mechanical and/or design, even weather or protocol faults that allowed it to happen.

That video of the helicopter take off/spinning out of control is fucking horrible to watch.

I can't even imagine how they must of felt - I shit myself when there's the smallest amount of turbulence.

RIP to all onboard.

I've just seen the video on youtube and watching it spin up in the air is really awful viewing. I am no expert on choppers but the take-off didn't look the most smooth as it seemed to move forward quite a bit just after leaving the ground. Maybe that's expected. But the speed it spins at there is no chance that can be stopped.

I would post it here but I'm not convinced it's appropriate to.

One of the comments on YT:

"This is a classic rear tail blade failure. The AW169 was grounded a few years ago because of stress cracks were found in the rear tail blades of a few helicopters around the world. Agusta claimed the problem was fixed. Obviously not."

The BBC have it up now but stop short of it going into full spin and drop. Could be something and nothing but about 35 seconds in, looks like a small object coming from the direction of it and heading towards the ground a high speed.

Yes I see what you mean, there's also a white stream of smoke that seems to jettison out to the left of it when up in the air at a very similar point. Looks like it all happened very quickly. Apparently everything up to that point was perfectly normal, including the moving forward at the beginning which is performed to ensure the pilot could land back where they took off from if they struggle to get in the air.
