Firstly, well done to Southampton. We could have no complaints if they got 6 or 7 over the two legs. Deserved winners. Even taking into account Martin Atkinson....

 

Secondly, this looks like a bit more than a blip now. Our form has just nosedived dramatically after the new year. Maybe you can only get so much out of average players?

 

Thirdly, Senegal need to hurry up and get knocked out of the African Cup of Nations. We miss Mane. A lot. Klopp's had time to sort the squad out, but we're still suffering from Rodgers' stockpiling of number 10 type players. We really lack attacking midfielders with pace to get in behind. Too many similar players, good on the ball, but don't offer much when teams play deep against us. They're probably not good enough, but maybe letting the likes of Ibe and even Markovic go without replacements, wasn't the wisest of decisions as they could offer something different?

 

Fourthly, Liverpool have needed a conventional holding midfielder for years now. Gerrard and Henderson are decent players, but we need a nasty, aggro type like Mascherano. Have done for years.

 

Fifthly, "Liverpool's defence isn't good enough to challenge for honours." Maybe. But the attack worries me more. Sturridge looks done at the top level. He can't run anymore. Origi is raw. Firmino isn't a natural forward.

 

Sixthly, Alan Smith is a gobshite.

I do think a couple of signings could make a huge difference. If you look at the difference the absence of Mane makes it's ridiculous. So obviously one or two more players in the squad with similar attributes would have a massive impact.

 

Why we're not willing or able to do it in January is a different discussion, I do to some degree understand that we want to get the right players and those may be hard to get now.

Firmino was and forever will be bad when not played through the middle. Origi should have started. He's the closest thing to mane pace wise and would give teams something to think about instead of leaving Clyne have it on our right and do Fuck all with it. That would free up space for coutinho and Milner. Its worked when mane was here, why change 3 positions and Fuck the balance of the team instead of a likeish for like replacement?
