Interesting summary of why the EU couldn't have any bearing on events in Ukraine if it wanted to.

"Why Europe has no say in the Russia-Ukraine crisis – European Council on Foreign Relations" https://ecfr.eu/article/why-europe-has-no-say-in-the-russia-ukraine-crisis/?amp

Bump - to let the Keir Starmer thread get back on track.

@Gnasher here's another old Labour Leftie giving his opinion on the EU.

"EU referendum: Vote Remain to protect workers' rights, says Corbyn - BBC News" https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-36508464

I dare say you'd rip the piss out of him if he posted those opinions on here.

I wouldn't, Corbyn seemed to take an even handed approach to the pros and cons of the EU, obviously the protection of workers rights has to be an issue, the obvious reaction for Labour imo would be to highlight and protest against the goverment proposals so putting clear daylight between themselves and the government, it would also bring the Labour and the Unions closer together in a common cause.

Why would rejoining the EU be "a fantasy in the minds of Leavers?

What I mean is, the idea that there was this great desire to rejoin the EU. Leavers seemed to think that every Remainer was a Rejoiner, when actually, virtually all of us knew it was a non-starter.

This is really interesting and something that’s puzzled me for a while.

Turns out we’ve been gaming the GDP figures with gold transfers counting towards growth in an entirely fabricated way and added as trade with non-EU countries.

Starts around 2015 and peaks last year, with this years not checked yet.

Well worth a read and shows some of the sleight of hand that’s been going on and why GDP and growth are a political construct used to present a false narrative of growth.

Interesting- the article's from early 2020, any idea if something similar has been happening since, or was it a one-off?

Charitable donations to Ukraine held up by post-Brexit red tape. Bra-fucking-vo. What a miserable little island we're becoming.

Wait until you find out the government is using its overseas aid budget for our ‘response’ taking money away from our other international commitments/initiatives for the worlds least fortunate…
