The ironic thing is, if they didn't sack him, it would make them the opposite of what they suppose they are; a big club.  In this era, not a single other big club would stand by and watch this happen, they'd boot him out and bring in a proper top class manager.

It would be failing to move with the times, which ironically, is one of the things hastening our own demise.

Hard to see him keeping his job much longer the way things are going. Those players obviously don't want to play for him. I just hope and pray that he has enough backing in the boardroom to be allowed the time he needs. Utd fans need to be realistic. They have a lot of dead wood and it's a big rebuilding job. No point in sacking Moyes when it isn't even his team. No, they should give him time to rebuild in his own image. Makes more sense than sacking him with a huge payoff after a matter of months.

Doubt the payoff matters much - we spent a fortune paying off Hodgo, Kenny and their staffs - they can do the same. They're looking to save face.

It's all too quick, and not good for rivals.

It's effectively a club going in the wrong direction, but you don't want them to realise it until they're lost in the middle of nowhere. Sadly, they're going to spot they're off the path pretty soon and correct it. Not good at all.

2-0's not insurmountable though, but if Moyes attempts to win the tie, it's definitely going to affect them for the Liverpool game. Let's just hope they don't pull off some miraculous recovery and go into the Liverpool game with their tails up. Far better they put in a real effort but suffer a demoralising defeat.

Quite funny on Red Cafe though... 'It's in the hands of the match going fans now'.

You wonder if they've got the money to correct it though. They've spunked big bucks on Mata and fathead's wages, presumably any other 'stars' they want to keep or sign are going to be asking for similar money, with no CL income next year and a club mired in debt, it's not quite Leeds territory but they don't seem to be doing the 'moneyball' thing.

Often when taking the piss out of managers or players, you know they're better than you at what they're doing, but I'm seriously confident I could do a better job than him.  Instant improvement by either A) stop knocking constant crosses into your two quality but not great in the air strikers or B) sign Carroll & Nolan.

Lets hope they give him time and follows down the second path.

Yeah. To be honest, it depends who you listen to. Plenty keep harping on about how big they are, which we all accept, but it's as though that makes them immune from difficulty and it doesn't.

Of course their revenue is huge (by football club standards) but that's on the back of so much success. What happens when / if that stops? Suddenly all the money borrowed against future earnings MUST become higher risk than before?

I agree with you, it's not (yet) Leeds or Rangers type problems, but no matter how you look at it, a lack of success on the pitch WILL mean a lack of spending money in the long run, and even in the the short term, if the Glazers see a need to give United a huge shot in the arm with a spending spree, they must be concerned about who's going to be choosing the players.

Unlike some, I really don't wish ill on them, but I do like the idea that nobody is immune to things going sour. I really don't like the assumption that a top club will always remain a top club. Things can change.

If he goes, it will be either Ferguson or someone like Giggs til the end of the season, and because they realise he is neither going to turn around Olympiacos or get 4th in the league.

This could actually mirror Di Matteo for Chelsea, couldn't it.  They were down and seemingly out from the first leg under Villas Boas.

If they're going to sack him this season, it will be now.
