Being a massive Liverpool fan, and best friend of a player here, I'd say he knows very well that we're on the up, have money to spend and possibly even some of the players we might be signing. As a fan, maybe he just wants to play for us?

Exactly. If anything, getting a 40 year old back up keeper in shows faith in the talent pool in that position as it obviously wont block their path for long.
