They've scored 2 goals in the last 15 games against them. Glendenning said it on football Weekly the other week.

Blackburn owners reveal reasons for sacking Sam Allardyce | Mail Online

Blackburn's under-fire owners have sensationally claimed that Sam Allardyce was sacked because they want a top-four finish - and that they may not appoint a replacement for 'a couple of months'.

Venky’s Group chairman Anuradha Desai has also insisted they want entertaining football at Ewood Park in the aftermath of Allardyce's shock departure on Monday.

'We want good football and Blackburn to be fourth or fifth in the league or even better,' Desai told the Lancashire Telegraph. 'The fans should trust us because this is in the best interests of the club.'

Desai added: 'It could now be a couple of months before a new manager is put in place. Right now Steve Kean will take over while we are looking for someone to take over on a permanent basis. Steve is a hard worker and he is doing a very good job as a coach.

'We have been studying him and have been very impressed. He works long hours and is talented at his job. He also works well with our very skilful young players and that is important.'

The Indian owners have also outlined plans to bring in a British manager if they can find the right man.

Desai said: 'Our thinking now is that it will be a British manager, but we are open if there is an outstanding candidate: someone who would be really, really good for the club.

'Right now we are going to have a study and put a lot of thought in to who the next manager of Blackburn Rovers will be. We don’t want to make a hasty decision and we are in a good position to take our time because Steve is quite capable.'

'My message to the fans is that we want the club to go up and develop and we want it to perform much better. Whatever we do we want to say to the fans that we have the best interests of the club in mind.'

Desai also attempted to explain their surprise decision to part with Allardyce - despite publicly backing him just two-and-a-half weeks ago.

She added: 'We do not mean anything bad for Sam Allardyce but we feel that we need to take the club up in the league and grow.

Venky's chairwoman Anuradha Desai: 'We want results and Sam has taken up the challenge. He deserves a chance. To this end, the group have promised manager Allardyce funds to spend in the January transfer window.'

Sam Allardyce sacked

'It is not about the Bolton match. It has been a long time in our minds. It is nothing against Sam but we have a different vision looking forward and we want the club to grow.

'We had been talking to Sam in the past few weeks but he did not fit in with our vision for the club’s future. We wanted good football, wanted the games to be interesting and of course wanted to win and to have good players.

'We needed to do some changes and Sam going is, of course, the main change. This is a major step but it was needed. We thought: Why delay? The fans should trust us and have belief in us because this is in the best interests of the club.'

Desai also confirmed that the position of Rovers chairman John Williams, a key ally of Allardyce, was not under threat. She added: 'I know that John Williams was very close to Sam but their situations are very different. John is safe.'

The owners are facing a dressing-room rebellion after Allardyce was sacked after less than two years in charge.

Captain Ryan Nelsen spoke out on behalf of Blackburn’s stunned players following the decision to make Allardyce the Premier League’s second managerial casualty in a week following Chris Hughton’s departure from Newcastle.

Hughton was installed as the bookies’ favourite to succeed Allardyce, with Sven Goran Eriksson and former Rovers striker Alan Shearer also in the frame along with ex-Tottenham boss Martin Jol, who is keen to return to English football after quitting his job at Ajax.

Allardyce, who will receive £2.5million to cover the final year of his contract, said: ‘It was obviously a big shock — I didn’t expect it. Unfortunately I had to pop in and see the chairman and he delivered the rather shocking news.

‘It has still not really been explained to me and I am a bit confused in my own head as to why. Maybe things will clear up in the next day or two but for now I just want to say thank you to everyone at Blackburn.’

Blackburn have put first-team coach Steve Kean in charge for the time being after assistant boss Neil McDonald followed Allardyce out of the door in a move Venky’s said was ‘part of our wider plans and ambitions for the club’.

WHO ARE VENKY'S?

New owners: Balaji Rao (left) and Venkatesh Rao

Venky's was established in 1976. It specialises in poultry farming and pharmaceuticals. The corporation is part of the VH Group, which has business interests including poultry, processed food, animal vaccines and healthcare products.

The group is run by 47-year-old Anuradha Desai, who took over from her father Banda Vasudev Rao. Rao's first job was that of a poultry attendant. He founded his first poultry farm with 500 birds.

Venky's India Limited joined the Indian Stock Exchange in 1986 and were the first listed poultry company in the country.

In 1994 the VH Group was launched by merging 25 companies into four.

Venky's is based in Pune, India's eighth largest city.

But the players were said to be outraged at the decision to sack a manager who saved the club from relegation after succeeding Paul Ince in December 2008 and then led Blackburn to a 10th-place finish last season.

They are currently 13th with Allardyce’s last game being Sunday’s defeat by Bolton, ironically the place where he made his name as a top-flight manager.

Nelsen led the outcry, saying: ‘I’ve got nothing but praise for Sam Allardyce and I feel so sorry it’s been handled like this. I’m just getting over the shock of it. Virtually all the players will be devastated by this because he was a very likeable character.

‘If we’d beaten Bolton we’d have been seventh in the league. We were all happy about the takeover because the club had stalled for the past few seasons.

‘We were dead in the water, and as we were floating around that’s where Sam did an incredible job on limited resources to keep the team from relegation and then got a top-10 position. Sam wasn’t given the credit he deserved.’

Asked if the new owners are taking a risk, Nelsen added: ‘They must have done their due diligence and said no, but in the world I live in then of course. It’s their company and they can do what they want with it. But for him not to even be able to get the opportunity with some resources is bad.’

Although Allardyce spoke of his shock at the decision, friends of the 56-year-old said he was actually relieved to be out of a situation that has grown steadily worse since the £46m takeover went through.

Indeed, it would not be inaccurate to draw comparisons with a turkey waiting for Christmas after the Indian chicken processors bought out the Jack Walker Trust in October.

There were worrying signs from the start with Venky’s chairwoman Anuradha Desai warning Allardyce that the Premier League’s first Indian owners expected to be entertained by a manager who has earned a reputation for route one football.

Desai said: ‘We should go up in the rankings but playing well is not just about winning. The way we play is vital.’

Allardyce responded in an interview with Sportsmail just days later, saying: ‘At Blackburn, the fans are entertained by putting the ball in the opponent’s box and creating chances to score goals, not by making 35 passes in your own half.

‘It is the same all around the country. That is what we deliver and why we are a worldwide brand and everybody wants to buy it. So don’t knock it.’

Splits: Allardyce (second left), next to John Williams and owners Balaji Rao and Venkatesh Rao

Although Blackburn were beaten 7-1 at Manchester United, striker Jason Roberts admitted last night that style rather than results must have played a part in Allardyce’s downfall.

He said: ‘With the new owners coming in and the comments about the style of play, maybe it wasn’t beyond the realms of possibility.

‘We have been criticised about our style of football but people know what Sam is about and whatever they said about his style, you could not argue with his record. Now we’d like to see a decision on a new manager made quickly.’

It is the second time Allardyce has been sacked by new owners after Mike Ashley dismissed him from Newcastle in January 2008, and he admitted to fearing for his future before the Blackburn take-over went through.

Both he and chairman John Williams were also known to have concerns over Venky’s links to sports agency Kentaro, and the possibility of players being brought in against the manager’s wishes.

When representatives from Venky’s and Kentaro met in India last week it was significant that neither Allardyce nor Williams was invited.

Allardyce is now certain to be linked with the upcoming vacancy at Sheffield United

Top 4 on their budget?

Looks like the poultry boys might be giving Mike Ashley and Florentino Perez a run for their money in this particular department.

Still, couldn't have happened to a nicer cunt.

Let me help you clear up the confusion, Sam. You were sacked because you are talentless fat-headed cunt with delusions about your actual managerial ability. Clear enough?

HARRY THINKS ROVERS COULD STRUGGLE

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp feels Blackburn could be "bang in trouble" after sacking Sam Allardyce.

Allardyce was dismissed less than a month after new Indian owners Venky's completed their takeover, with the club lying 13th in the Barclays Premier League.

Redknapp was stunned by the decision and believes Allardyce will be a tough act to follow.

"He's top class at his job, I really mean that," Redknapp said.

"People who don't know him see this big northern ex-centre-half who they think is a big hammer thrower, well he's the brightest guy you could ever wish to meet.

"He is so far in advance in all the sports science and technology and preparing his teams, he is just amazing. I know him well and he has so much to offer. He will bounce back."

Redknapp added on BBC Radio Five Live: "When new owners come in they've all got mates or have heard of someone who is good... they haven't got a clue really.

"I see Maradona's name has been mentioned... If they make the wrong decision I can see Blackburn being bang in trouble this year.

"He (Allardyce) is going to be a very difficult act to follow."

In response to that chat, Allardyce (probably deluding himself that he was untouchable) gave an interview to the local paper saying that the fans would rather see the ball lumped into the opposition box rather than thirty odd pretty passes in their own half. It wasn't what the owners were talking about, and it was arrogant and stupid considering he had no idea who he was dealing with.

I'd swear he adopted the Little Englander mentality that he was dealing with a bunch of Indian hick chicken farmers. Venky's apparent relationship with this sports agency may be concerning, but ultimately old Fat Head was undone by his own hubris.

The former England manager Graham Taylor says he will be boycotting turkey and chicken this Christmas in protest at the decision by the new Blackburn Rovers owners, Venky's, to sack Sam Allardyce.

The Indian poultry tycoons made the decision to dismiss Allardyce on Monday despite the manager's impressive record since arriving at Ewood Park.

Taylor, infamously depicted as a turnip during his time as England manager, told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: "For the first time in many, many years I will be having roast beef for Christmas dinner rather than turkey or chicken.

"It will be my protest against what is happening at Blackburn Rovers and what is happening to our football in this country.

"What the hell is going on? I feel very strongly and passionate about this because I see the game being taken over by non-football people."
