Newcastle United Football Club have today parted company with manager Chris Hughton. Goalkeeping coach Paul Barron also leaves the club today.

The board would like to place on record their thanks to Chris for his considerable efforts during the club's transition from Championship to Premier League football. Chris has shown exceptional character and commitment since being appointed manager in October 2009. The club wishes him well for the future.

Regrettably the board now feels that an individual with more managerial experience is needed to take the club forward.

The task of appointing a new manager now begins. An announcement will be made shortly regarding transitional arrangements pending the appointment of a successor.

He had them playing like a team for the first time in ages.

Awful decision, but then Newcastle specialise in those.

What a snide line that 'individual with more managerial experience' bit is.

Hopefully Carroll is now unsettled. I'd take him in a flash.

How about 35 years of managerial experience?

Come on Ashley, you know you want to.... /mischievous grin

In all seriousness, they took Souness off Blackburn's hands when he was on the verge of the exit door there, so they have form for this sort of thing.

Hope Hughton lands on his feet too, I haven't followed their results closely but it seems like a few crap results interspersed between a few very good ones and a thrashing of their deadly rivals. From a newly promoted side. Looks like he had the dressing room too.

In all seriousness it does show what a bunch of utter bellends the Newcastle board are, when a manager appointed just over a year ago gets over a hundred points in the championship and starts the premiership reasonably well (probably mid-table at Christmas) with roughly the same group of players, and then gets sacked.

Meanwhile, our manager with his team full of internationals and world class players who is actually below them with a game in hand is afforded time to 'get it right'.

I'm not saying NESV are right in what they're doing but you would think Ashley would at least look around the table and see what relying on 'experience' can do for you.

Ashley is such a bonehead. I bet he regarded it as an inconvenience when Hughton did well and made it hard for him to be sacked. It's such an Ashley argument: let a young manager get some experience, then sack him because he doesn't have enough experience.

Very true. ashley was just looking for a reason to sack Hughton because although he got them promotion, he doesnt fit the managerial profile ashley wants to be able to sell the club.
