Call of Duty Black Ops revealed - set for November 9 release | Technology | guardian.co.uk

Activision has officially named the next title in the lucrative Call of Duty series. Previously known as Call of Duty 7, the title is now confirmed as Call of Duty: Black Ops. The game is being developed by Santa Monica-based studio Treyarch, responsible for several previous instalments in the military first-person shooter series, including Call of Duty: World at War and Call of Duty 3.

The press announcement provides little extra information, simply promising that Black Ops will, "take players behind enemy lines in an entirely new chapter in the groundbreaking and record-setting, No. 1 first-person action series of all-time."

For the last few months, news sites have been rife with rumours that the game would be set in Vietnam - and the title announcement does not necessarily contradict that. As the Official Xbox Magazine reported, Treyarch put out a casting call in LA earlier this year, looking for an actor to play one 'Frank Barnes', a WW2 veteran and member of the Studies and Observations Group, a black ops unit active during the Vietnam war.

There's an official website here, and Activision is promising that a teaser trailer will hit the GameTrailers site this evening.

he first gameplay details for Call Of Duty: Black Ops have been revealed by UK retailer GAME.

According to the chain's online product listing for Black ops:

Now you will witness the birth of the Elite Special Forces and take part in off-the-record missions using unconventional weaponry to get the job done!

From Cuba to the Arctic and the jungles of Vietnam, Call of Duty: Black Ops features stunning cinematic graphics and intense gameplay that puts you right at the heart of the action!

The first details of the game were released today by Activision and Treyarch.

An official trailer is expected to go live at 2am GMT tonight.

They've put up a new website as well: Call of Duty: Black Ops | Age Gate

There goes the whole of this upcoming November then.

As much as I'll buy the game it's all a bit sinister isn't it, this glorification of warfare, and now of balck ops. I may be wrong and it may have a moral compass but it'll no doubt be about the myth of bumping off drug lords and "terrorists" and not democratically elected socialists in South America.

Maybe the top five online players in the world can win a contract to work for Blackwater, appropriating humanitarian funds and training contracted death squads from El Salvador to brutalise poor people in some arse-crack of the world.

Apologies for that political outburst on the TNF.

‘Call Of Duty: Black Ops’ Trailer » MTV Multiplayer

Activision may have revealed the title of their next "Call of Duty" game yesterday, (it's "Call of Duty: Black Ops," in case you couldn't guess), but today we're getting our first real glimpse at it in the form of a quick-cut teaser trailer, which you can enjoy up top.

Some things to notice, it appears that the game will be one giant flashback, told from the point of view of someone being tortured. At the beginning of the trailer you can actually see "2010" on one of the machines in the room, but there's a strong likelihood that none of the game will actually take place in modern day, as Infinity Ward still has a monopoly on modern day "Call of Duty" games.

Other things to note:

- Snowy environments, so this will not just be in and around Vietnam (which basically confirms our story from yesterday).

- Huey helicopters in jungle environments, though, remind us that at least some of the game will take place in Vietnam.

- First confirmed gun! We get a glimpse at a silenced Steyr Aug right in the middle of the trailer.

- Looks like there will be at least one mission which has you parachuting into action.

- Another mission appears to have you controlling the gunner of an attack helicopter.

- The trailer wraps with a look at a super sonic jet (SR51 blackbird, perhaps?) and some gentleman in what looks very much like a suit capable of withstanding the pressures of space.

I disliked WAW, but it was miles ahead of that Shit game that they call MW2, truly awful.

I'll give this game a chance, but if it's no good then that's it for me with regards to the COD series.

Modern Warfare has been the only good COD game (COD 2 was ok)

On a side note, did anyone ever complete COD 2 on Veteran Difficulty. I think its one of the hardest games I've ever played and there were 3 levels that were impossible to complete: - The Battle For Hill 400, D-Day and Battle for Caen. Anyone ever complete this game to its entirety?

CoD2 was the most fun I had online with my XBOX. MW was fun.

MW2 on the other hand is everything that's wrong with gaming. When I heard it was going to retail at £55 I promised myself I wouldn't buy it. I ended up getting it for £45 and getting a 5 hour single player and a multiplayer that was tailor made for American teenagers that don't leave their bedrooms. It's decent enough with mates, but with strangers it becomes a case of "If you don't play for 10 hours a day, prepare to get raped."

On topic - I just wish they made a full blown Vietnam game. Clearly it's the coolest war.

So basically you don't like MW2 because you are not very good at it.

Where the fuck do you shop? MW2 was £28 in Sainsbury's on the day of launch.

They've confirmed Zombie mode for Black Ops as well, for all those who played this on WaW.

The Hardened and Prestige editions of the game come with 4 WaW Zombie maps that have been revamped using the MW2 engine.

It is being assumed that the all editions will have Zombie mode included, and the old WaW maps are added bonuses for stumping up the extra cash, though this may not be the case, and only the Hardened and Prestige editions will have zombie mode.

The Black Ops wikia page is certainly worth keeping an eye on.

There is also speculation that Treyarch may release a multiplayer beta, though be aware that there are plenty of scam sites already claiming to have beta keys available to buy now. The announcement on any beta would be within the next month I should imagine.
