A few years ago, on leaving The Stanley pub (now closed) by Great Mersey Street, I heard an exchange between a couple of teenage girls and a couple of lads. The exchange of insults ranged from the usual 'slut' and 'homo' to 'dad shagger' and 'baby raper'. As the girls strode off down towards Heriot Street one threw back the shattering 'fucking never had it'. The youth to whom this emasculating insult was aimed stood in silence for a moment. The girls laughed as they began to fade in the gloom, then the offended youth countered with what I thought was one of the greatest insults a broken man could throw back - "FUCKIN' SWEAT!".

 

Not the most offensive of all the insults they traded but I found it hysterical.
