Stupid ants have built a woolly aphid farm on my dwarf orange tree. I thought someone had wrapped half the leaves in cotton wool.

Getting a good crop of lemons this year though

What's the treatment for the orange, Pesti?

Meanwhile chez Champ we may actually have our own grapes this year and I picked my first ever homegrown cucumber yesterday. I may be in trouble, though, as Mr Champ hates even the smell of them and there are already another two almost ready to pick

You're not going to believe this but we are not allowed to kill anything living in our house or garden. This makes all spiders etc her problem as she knows I will just stamp on them. In this case, she has spent the best part of an hour gently moving all the aphids and ants off the tree and into a plastic bowl. She is now re-housing them in a part of the garden that we never use.

I haven't been able to watch so I went to the basement to fix some garden furniture

Kudos on the grapes in Scotland - have they sweetened enough to eat?

Oh, I believe you!

And on the matter of the grapes, I said that we have grapes but I have no expectation that they will actually be edible! I wanted the vine as much for its appearance as the chance to pick my own grapes so if they turn out to be edible too than thats a massive bonus. Mr C cant believe we've got grapes at all. He just thought I was daft

Have you got a 'before' picture? From what I can remember I couldnt have imagined that you'd have so much open space. The shed's yours, right?

Edit. Just seen your reply about your summerhouse

I've just paced this as I can't get to the back as it's that overgrown, I think it's around 14m by 10m, that's being conservative. There is another patch at the front of the house but that's just getting decked as the views are amazing in the summer.

Half way through the top garden, plants and decking still to go, along with finishing off the glorified shed.

Crikey, my conservative estimate was almost half what it was! Grief. Women and sizes' eh? I'll be joining Mrs PD at this rate!

I am sat on here putting off going into the garden to dig out my lovely border so that the fence builders can get to work tomorrow morning. *reminds self how long I've waited for this fence to block out our neighbours*

I have been having an interesting email discussion with one of the Customer Service people from Crocus after a plant I'd bought from them died. After sending them a picture of said plant she helpfully reported back

>Thank you for your reply, I have spoken with our plant team and they have
> advised that the plant has failed

I think I'd worked that one out for myself!

The 'plant team' sounds brilliant, their phones must be ringing of the fucking hook, how do you go about getting a job there then?

'Hello, plant team, how can I help?'

'There's something wrong with my plant.'

'What seems to be the matter?'

'It's dead.'

'Your plant has failed, goodbye.'

My garden is an absolute tragedy this summer. You simply can't have a nice garden when you have to work 12+ hours a day.

It has hardly rained here in months as well, which makes it a real challenge just to keep alive...sorry, prevent it from 'failing' I should say.

It has hardly stopped raining here in months. Maybe we could do a deal?
