If he told Kenny in the week he was going to shake his hand, he should have done it.

If he wasn't going to shake his hand, he should have said so and it could have been dealt with prior to the game.

Suarez has made Kenny look a twat throughout the week with his comments on it and Suarez going back on what he said he was going to do.

I'm not fussed he didn't shake his hand, but if he told Kenny he was going to do it, he should have done it.

End of.

Some fucking right drama queens on here.

this is all very strange.

there's conflicting information coming out from the club here. One minute kenny is resolutely defending him the next he's being told to apologise for doing so. why would he say "he should never have been away" on monday night? back luis again yesterday albeit he didn't see the handshake or lack of handshake.

if luis did tell kenny he would shake evras hand and then didn't do it then he's wrong but if he was told to do it and then didn't do it then fair play to him.

suarez has cemented his legendary status at this club now regardless hopefully he starts to add some titles to the cult status and gets this club back where it belongs. I do fear this could be the beginning of the end of him here and if it is then united will have achieved what they set out to do back in october.

Fucking caving in under pressure from the fucking media again.

It might just help keep him here, cant keep having this storm of hatred from everyone whenever he steps on the pitch.

The media unfortunately shape the opinions of millions who cant think for themselves so sometimes you just need to be clever and use it.

We are already getting a bit of praise for this, it's not right but it is what it is.

Liverpool's errant striker Luis Suárez must learn from his chequered past starting with Tottenham Hotspur - Telegraph

In the aftermath the Dutch press called him the ‘Cannibal of Ajax’ and the Dutch FA banned him for seven games. Suárez uploaded an apology to his Facebook page. The then Ajax coach, Martin Jol, jokingly tried to defend his player (“maybe he was hungry”) but Ajax criticised him on their website. Suárez was apparently disappointed by the perceived lack of support and a few months later he moved to Liverpool.

The same thing happening here has got to be a worry.

Utter nonsense. We've been hugely supportive as the player himself has confirmed.

Not over the handshake. Ian Ayre, and the club, have just thrown Suarez under the bus as piscinin said earlier in the thread.

Just making Suarez apologising was no problem, but to get the Managing Director criticising him on the website is just OTT and a kick in the teeth for Suarez.

Whether you want to admit it or not, this whole issue, going right back to the racist comment claim, immediately became an issue of perception as much as fact. And once that fact is accepted, as the perceived guilty party, Luis/the club should have acted in a much more coherent and proactive manner.

Along the way, right from the original accusation through to Saturday, mistakes have been made and opportunities missed to do what the entire country viewed as correct. Again I will say that because this was now an issue of perception, we should have acted accordingly, whether we felt wronged or not, the whole situation is much bigger than any one incident or person involved.

The fact that there have been apologies from the player Suarez, Kenny and the club means that we can have a clear conscience about what happened yesterday, and as such are free to move on with our season.

Personally I can't stand the general media and the amount of poor journalism I see is staggering, but like it or not, they control public opinion and are responsible for shaping the perception of Suarez and Liverpool. As such, to a certain extent, it benefits us to play their game. In all honesty, I think Kenny gives them enough of a hard time during interviews for anyone to suggest we as a club are a soft touch in any way.

In summary, the apologies should allow us to move on, and as such, can only be viewed as the right thing to do. Any feelings that we have been wronged, which I believe we have on a number of points throughout the whole issue, have to be put on the back burner for our club to benefit. We have to begin to be viewed positively again by media, clubs, players, fans etc.

Manchester United thanks Liverpool for the apologies issued following Saturday's game.

Everyone at Old Trafford wants to move on from this. The history of our two great clubs is one of success and rivalry unparalleled in British football.

That should be the focus in the future of all those who love the clubs.
