I think England are the best team in the world. There's not a weak link anywhere.

India looked awful frankly, that bowling attack is shocking. We'll piss this series now I reckon.

I'm not sure about piss it, but I feel more confident. Sehwag is due back to add to an already great batting line-up, but I do feel India's bowling will be the weak link that allows England to win there series. Especially if Khan is out for a few tests.

I think England are there or thereabouts the best team. Maybe a series win in India and/or SA would really cement it.

No doubt India have a great batting line up but equally, Dravid, Tendulkar and VVS are all past their peaks. I think our bowling line up can get the better of them at this stage of their careers.

Agree on the point about us winning away from home, it's one thing winning in England in favourable conditions but to be the true number 1 side we need to win in places like India, South Africa and Sri Lanka as well.

We have just won in Australia though so we can do it!

I agree with that, although we may vary slightly on the weakness or relative diminished power of their batting line up. Overall I think you're being fair in that I would also expect our bowlers to just get the better at this stage.

I feel we can win on the subcontinent but I think we would have to be on total top form. SA would be a good test with a bit more leeway for us I think.

I'm interested to see how SA do under Gary Kirsten and Allan Donald. I expect them to improve, and they're already a quality side, so I agree that they'd be a good test. Don't think we're playing them for a while though?

I read that list wrong. Cheers Ste.

Presumably they've moved it forward a year then? After the ECB not wanting to have it in the same year as the World Cup.

I think the next ashes was moved (home next summer, where as normally its 2 1/2 years between aussie summer and England summer) then its just reverted back to the normal gap.

So yeah its been moved to accommodate the ICC ODI WC

Terrific test match. Good performances on both sides and for once the lords wicket finally gave us a result. Restricting India under 300 for both innings on a batting friendly wicket was a impressive bowling performance. I thought the pressure built on tendulkar in the 2nd innings was brilliant. It was mcgrath like from all 3 seamers. The virtues of a good line & length.

Bodes well for a great series ahead. Two top quality test teams. india's bowling line up does look weak though imo.

I dont think so mate. The next Ashes in England was always scheduled for 2013. As there is always a 4 year gap between when it is held in England. 2001/2005/2009 etc.

2 ashes series in 2013 by the looks of it.

Looking at that schedule i do think too much test cricket is being played. 12+ tests a year is alot. The Ashes apart i don't see the need for anymore than 3 test series. It should be 3 games apiece of each discipline 20:20, 50 over & tests (5 tests for Aus) % ODI's is too much ans i don't see the point in just having the odd one 20:20 game for a touring party.

Yeah looks that way. I must have got confused. Strange seeing two ashes series in a year. BTW that info was from the ECB website.

Sachin, Dravid and Laxman are certainly not well past their peaks. If Zaheer stays fit, I`d still back us to for an odd win or two.

Yes they are. To suggest otherwise is pure bias.

Don't get me wrong, they're still fantastic players but certainly not as good as they were. No disgrace in that, they are approaching 40 after all.

And Zaheer staying fit is a big ask, he's blatantly unfit in the worst way. He needs to lose about 3 stone to even be considered anywhere near fit.

I am pretty sure someone did this and found that Sachin had scored more runs last year (or the year before cant recall which) than he ever had with better averages. Cant find it though.

Our highest run getter in the world cup and second only to Dilshan. Dont think he is declining; especially since he picks and chooses his tournaments to rest himself adequately.

Anyways its a matter of opinions and we are all biased based on what we love/support. To that end, I reckon this will be a boss series with two very good cricketing teams. We`ll still do you in the ODI's mind ;)

As far as Zaheer`s fitness/fatness goes, if he is good to bowl, thats all I want. His weight doesnt bother me. Great bowler and will always be a handful in imperial conditions, fat or not.

My point is that his weight may make him not good to bowl. He should have turned up in better condition in my opinion. Agree that he's a great bowler though, especially in the Evil Empire's home conditions!
