I think there's some behind the scenes issues with Pacheco, maybe Unrighteous knows about them and that's why he's saying that. Was looking forward to seeing him play for us more than any other but have let it go now because I think there's problems that most of us aren't aware of. Saying that though, if he's got a big head and is a bit of a cunt it didn't work out too badly for Utd with Ronaldo so who knows. (not that I think he's as good, just thinking flair player + possible ego problems, etc.)

Wouldn't mind seeing him played in the FA/League cups a decent bit to see if he can develop, doubt he's going to get PL time in the near future unless he proves something.

Pacheco is obviously never going to make it with us. Sell him now while we can get a fee. Fuck all this sending him out on loan business.

Not sure what the basis for that statement is? Tom Cleverly is 23, and just starting to break into the United team, look at Charlie Adam!

If we don't get another striker this year why not use him?

Juventus will not let go, and continues to contend with Milan Alberto Aquilani, 27-year-old Liverpool midfielder and national team, last year just on loan to Juventus. AC Milan, as the favorite in the race for the player, would not want to engage the powerful midfielder on a permanent basis, and this could raise the ambitions of Juventus, who would be willing to buy Aquilani outright, paying a few million to Liverpool in less than 9 required by the "Reds". The deal is not yet close to conclusion, but there may be new in the coming weeks.

Does anyone else find it odd that it's Man City and not Chelsea that's linked with Nasri? Man City have Johnson, Milner and Silva already. On the other hand, Chelsea only really have Benayoun who is that sort of player.

Apart from the £150k a week on offer at City, doesn't he want to leave Arsenal because he wants to play centrally and not on the wing?

If he was to play there at City then he's up against Toure, Barry and Milner so much more likely to be the main man

Anyone would pay millions to see their notebooks or reading the reports by each night in their hotel rooms. But all his work is a kind of secret. They go through stages of the world seeking the most talented players to sign them on computers that represent, and the FIFA U-20 taking place in Colombia is one of those events required in their busy schedule of trips.

A tournament that brings together the best youth teams in the world is the perfect place to find figures that will shape the future of football. The players know and do everything to excel in this unique showcase for their lives. And those seeking to do business and keep the best take careful note of every boy in every play.

In this world move roughly two groups: scouts who provide services for professional teams, and entrepreneurs who seek to represent and manage contracts for players who charge commissions. There is no exact figure on how many came to Colombia to the championship, but between experts in this market estimates are between 200 and 250 people between them.

Just the groups were drawn and defined the subsites, each began to assemble an itinerary, carefully choosing which games and what teams wanted to see. Scouts (scouts tell them in English) are clear indications of the club on what kind of player search. Entrepreneurs looking for all kinds of talents with the certainty of finding a team that may be interested in them. It's a great bag, a market that FIFA opens twice a year, from 1 December to 31 January and 1 June to 31 August) and moves hundreds of millions of dollars in transactions for players only.

To critics this business is similar to buying and selling of slaves, where that profit is the entrepreneurs and intermediaries with juicy commissions, and clubs to keep the profits when transactions are made by numbers of players sometimes astronomical. The footballer, as always, is the most wins.

For employers, this is one of many business units that offer the sport that drives the world's biggest fans (700 million people watched the final of the last World Cup in South Africa) and that allows a player to move in football world in a better economic and working conditions some years ago.

On the pitch things are one price. Players from Latin America or Africa only see the opportunity to become stars, shining in the best teams in the world out of poverty and to devote as idols of the crowd.

The best opportunity is in Europe, a market that pays well and willingly receive from foreigners talented with the ball. According to the Observatory of European football, the 2660 professional players in the five major European leagues, England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France a little over 800 are foreign.

Sandy Byers, scout for Blackburn Rovers, English club with 136 years of tradition in the Premier League, arrived in Colombia with clear instructions from coach Steve Kean to find Latin American players. They have none on its payroll, for now, and it seems that after this World Cup could have several. In her book, she confessed to CROM is eyeing several young people in Colombia, Costa Rica and Mexico.

Not reveal names, as expected. It takes 32 years in this job and one of his sons has just finished his football career at Manchester United. Diplomatic and smiling, prefers to speak of the hospitality of Colombia, the excellent organization of the World, and good technical level of the tournament.

His compatriot Mel Johnson, scout for Liverpool, with more than 25 years of experience in Tottenham and Newcastle, not loose garment. He admits that he is interested in Latin American, but says he is open to see good football regardless of nationality.

Sandy is more direct when asked about the Latin players, "When we went to Ecuador in South American U-17 led us to see the boys much eager to play better. On this continent is still deeply rooted culture of football, playing in the parks. In Europe, however, you are missing the essence of soccer neighborhood. "

What they like most of the players in this part of the world is the view of the game and claw. But at the time of qualifying evaluate aspects such as physical build, strength, when using both legs and intelligence. "It is not enough to play well, must have head," emphasizes Mel.

Their approach seems simple. Come the parties, examine the players and then reporting to their clubs that the players ranked in categories ranging from A to D with the following qualification: D is bad; C, you have to give up; B be observed in the short term, and A, must sign him immediately. Their reports are technical. They can not do transactions or offers for players. It is the sports manager who negotiates with the player or his representative.

To fulfill its task in this World Cup U-20 saw 18 games and analyzed more than 350 players, so it does not seem so simple as at first. Yet his work can arouse envy in more than one fan: see football every hour of his existence, traveling the world looking for the best and nobody doubts it, make good money.

But for them it is much more: "We must work passionately says Sandy. Reputation is most important. If you bring a good player, you do well and gain prestige, but if you're wrong, you lose. " That is his heritage, his good eye for players who have talent, attitude and well suited to the demanding English football.

Your itinerary in Colombia was pretty hectic. They arrived on July 28 and the next day flew to Medellin, returned to Bogota, traveled to Manizales, Medellin were again, after Armenia, again Bogotá, Pereira and then completed their journey on Sunday August 7. Mel went to London to watch the match Nigeria-Ghana finally postponed by the riots in the English capital, and Sandy for the Netherlands and Ukraine, seeking professional players.

In their agendas have yet to return to this side of the planet to see the South American Under-15 in Uruguay in November. And maybe, just maybe, they'll see closer to a player who wants to live in England.

But have Chelsea been in for him? Your points explain why he might prefer City to Chelsea, not why Chelsea haven't expressed interest (or have they, and I missed it?).

Maybe they still think they can get Modric.

Chelsea have identified Raul Meireles as a cut-price alternative after being thwarted in attempts to sign their primary transfer targets. Valencia yesterday rejected an £18 million bid for Juan Mata, while Chelsea have made little progress in their pursuit of Luka Modric, although they are expected to make an improved bid for the Tottenham Hotspur midfield player.

Valencia value Mata at £26 million after interest from Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham, but Chelsea are unwilling to go that high. Instead André Villas-Boas, the manager, has proposed a move to sign Meireles, whom Liverpool would be willing to sell for £13 million. Meireles worked briefly under Villas-Boas at Porto, but did not play for him and he joined Liverpool last year.

Decent bets

Fulham have offered about £1.2 millon for Miguel Lopes, the Porto right back who was on loan at Real Betis last season. Martin Jol, the Fulham manager, has said that it was “not unthinkable” that he would try to sign Mounir El Hamdaoui, the Ajax forward.

Newcastle United expect to sign Rob Elliot, the Charlton Athletic goalkeeper, as a replacement for Fraser Forster, who has rejoined Celtic on loan with a view to a £2 million transfer. Elliot, 25, was recommended to Alan Pardew, the Newcastle manager, by Andy Woodman, his goalkeeping coach, who worked with the player at The Valley.

Modibo Maiga, the Mali forward, has threatened to go on strike indefinitely unless Sochaux, his French club, agree to sanction his proposed transfer to St James’ Park. “I am not in the best condition to play,” he said. “Newcastle is very clear — they want me and I want to go there.”

Real Betis are in talks with Birmingham City about Nikola Zigic, the forward, in case they fail to sign Daniel Guiza from Fenerbahçe.

Real Zaragoza have made a fresh attempt to sign Pablo Barrera, the winger, on loan from West Ham United, although their unwillingness to pay a loan fee could be a stumbling block.

Dead certs

Carlos Salcido, the Fulham left back, has returned to his native Mexico to join Tigres on loan.

• In yesterday’s paper we stated that Eva Carneiro, the Chelsea reserve team/academy doctor, qualified two years ago. In fact, Dr Carneiro qualified in 1999. She received an MSc in sports medicine in 2006, has been working in sports medicine since 2007 and at Chelsea for 2½ years.

N'Gog moves closer to Wanderers switch (From The Bolton News)

DAVID N’Gog’s much-anticipated move to Wanderers should click into gear by the end of this week.

Sources on Merseyside suggest the Reds are preparing a bid for Sochaux’s Ryad Boudebouz, which would then pave the way for Owen Coyle to open talks with the £4million-rated Frenchman.

The Whites have chased N’Gog for a month, having dropped their interest in Jeffren Suarez, and have seen two previous offers turned down.

Their most recent bid – which is thought to include a handful of add-ons depending on his success – has been on the table for a fortnight.

But with Kenny Dalglish keen to avoid leaving himself short, the deal has remained on hiatus until director of football Damien Commolli searched for a successor.

That job is set to go to Algeria international Boudebouz, who is available at €7m, or around £6.1m.

While N’Gog is keen on a move to Wanderers, the issue of personal terms is potentially another tricky hurdle.

N’Gog came close to signing for Sunderland in July as part of the deal that took Jordan Henderson to Merseyside.

He was pencilled in for a medical at the Stadium of Light on return from a holiday in Miami but pulled out of the deal after the club failed to meet his financial demands.

As part of his contract with the Reds, which has 12 months left to run, N’Gog stands to improve his basic wage considerably if he makes 20 appearances this season.

But having been told by Dalglish that he is not part of his first team plans, the former Paris St Germain starlet has decided to cut his ties and seek a deal elsewhere.

Coyle made a cheeky but unsuccessful attempt to sign the front man on loan last summer. It is understood former Anfield boss Rafa Benitez was willing to sell the youngster for £6m, but the fee was out of the Whites’ reach at the time.

It was also confirmed by Wanderers on Saturday that Liverpool had not been in contact about Gary Cahill, and that N’Gog would not be included as a makeweight in any prospective deal.

I really can't see us signing any more players this summer. I think we're concentrating more on getting rid of players.

Maybe not!

Kenny Dalglish: "I don't know if our transfer business is done and dusted yet'

That suggest there is more to come.

Only seen him 2 or 3 times. Skilful, small and skinny left winger with loads of skill. For £6m it would be worth a punt but in no way is he a replacement for Ngog, he's not a striker.

Cheers. Wouldn't have thought left wingers were a priority, unless Downing plays on the right, or Boudebouz can switch over...

Textbook 'Arry

Absolutely textbook work from Harry Redknapp this morning. Summing up his entire transfer policy in one simple sentence, he said:

"The chairman is talking to Man City about the player but where they (the negotiations) are at, I genuinely don't know."

Discussing a player who doesn't play for Spurs, despite stating in the past that he doesn't do such things? Check.

Expressing an apparent ignorance about transfer dealings at his own club? Check.

Shifting responsibility onto his chairman, so if a deal doesn't come off Daniel Levy is to blame, not him? Check.

Honestly, we nearly stood and applauded. The only thing missing was he didn't say it outside the Spurs training ground, while leaning out the window of his car.
