SW, the difference is that Diao comes from an incredibly poor background. We shouldn't really judge him by our own moral constructs because different people have different perspectives depending upon where they were raised and under what circumstances. I think Strontium Dog alluded to something similar recently and I agree.

Diao doesn't come from a poor background. He came from a middle class one. His family owned a string of hotels in Senegal. I remember reading an interview where he said how disappointed they were that he didn`t want to join the family business. Diouf on the other hand comes from an extremely poor way of life.

I agree to an extent. But relativism only goes so far. I don't think that his poor background necessarily precludes his actions being those of a soulless mercenary. Of course his career is short, of course the financial security is possibly more paramount to someone from Diao's background. But surely as a kid he dreamt of being a footballer rather than being rich?

Heard two stories about Diao that are supposed to be true and come from very good sources.

This season when the non-world cup players returned to training Rafa was welcoming them back, he noticed Diao and told him to take another week off.

Last season against portsmouth Diao tried to get into the changing room before the game to say hello to the players, he was bundled out by an angry Rafa.

He is a high earner on a big contract and a really poor poor player. GH should be made to sign him for 5 million and pay him inflated wages on a 6 year contract.

I think Dave posted both of those recently.

Rafa will be tearing his hair out over this. I would force Daio to train with the kids every day, or put the cones and goalposts on the training ground every morning and make him report in for training at 6am. If he doesn't turn up at all, then fine him his wages. Make the parasite squirm for his precious 40 grand.

I was thinking that what with the Bosman thingy, that footballers could be treated like any other employee and thought therefore, can't we sack him for not being up to standard? Maybe we have been holding out for some kind of transfer fee
