I have no problem with a woman winning it, it was just the wrong one

It’s all about the attention given by broadcasters. 5 years ago (I picked the number randomly) they didn’t think there was any interest in women’s football

I actually thought part of it was her knickers.

I think it was to be fair. Pervtastic.

Mary Earps was bound to win it. Forget about KJT overcoming a career threatening injury to win her 2nd World Championship, Earps once shouted "fuck off" dead loud and you couldn't buy her goalie top.

I'm not Earps' biggest fan; she's been likened to that Pickford twat onfield, but I shouldn't think it's her fault that GK shirts weren't available. Also couldn't care less if she's sweary. It's a big win for women's football and sport in general. Fair play to her.

Third woman in a row, and second female footballer- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_Sports_Personality_of_the_Year_Award#Awards_by_year

I'm not entirely sure what she did to deserve it, Mead was far more worthy last year and actually won something. Mind you, I've no idea why Broad was in there either, presumably mainly because of his retirement.

Just flicking through the horror section of news channels. GB News are about to have a debate on whether Earps should have won it. A fine opportunity few on here to get involved.

I doubt the view, 'Katarina Johnson-Thompson should have won it' would go down too well there.

Perhaps because that's who the public voted for?

And that’s some shift in the public perception of women’s football. Maybe people like feeling part of something optimistic and heartwarming

I think BBC Sport have a lot to do with the increased interest in women's f**tball. Participation requires role models and teams that people can follow closely, but also media coverage. The catch 22 was that you wouldn't get the media coverage without the interest and participation normally, but BBC started to do it anyway. A good case study for this is women's tennis; for my lifetime it's been on almost a par with the men's game in terms of attention and prestige. If I look at my own interest in women's sport, I only really was interested in Tennis and Athletics which just so happened to be the 2 sports that got the most attention on TV. I have to admit I just haven't got the interest, time or inclination to start getting into women's f**tball, though that is representative of a general dwindling in the amount of sport I consume but had this coverage happened when I was a sports mad teenager, there's every chance the likes of Earps may have got my vote.

I've seen Earps interviewed a couple of times and personally think she's a bit of a dickhead.

KJT should have won, IMO.

She does sound like a dickhead, here:
