Crosses don't just supply headers you can score with your feet from a low cross.

The point is not how good or bad Benteke is compared to Carroll or anyone else, it's how the team would have to be set up to accommodate him.

Three options:

1) We hoof the ball up hopefully to him and ask him to hold up play while the midfield attack.

2) We use wingers to supply him.

3) We have someone like Alonso who could turn the ball over rapidly from midfield to attack to allow us to move forward quickly. As it stands right now the only one who has the vision to do that is Coutinho and none of us would want him in the middle in a deep lying role, especially if we are not going to sign anyone who can put their foot in to protect him.

And whatever we do not for anything more than £20m.

Or we could just play like we played season before last, like he's more than capable of doing. The idea that you need some fundamental shift in the way we play to make use of him is bogus.

We can't use a player who runs the channels, we can't use a player with good close control, we can't use a player who scores goals?

We're not trying to sign Carsten Jancker.

Right so play like the season before last with a defence that's now worse and a striker who's lucky if he's got one tenth of the ability of the second or third best player on the planet.

Let's see how far that gets us then.

He could be still be worth a punt? Maybe he'll be a successful signing and reality won't bear any resemblance to your doomsday scenarios. Just a thought. His stats for Villa are impressive.

You should try going Cardie more often, because he actually has the first idea what he's talking about and you're a clueless buffoon who calls just about everything wrong.

This same Cardie who thinks there were no decent strikers available this summer?

Like doesn't mean the same.

Nor, for that matter, was it a comment on the team as a whole rather how we fed strikers with quick balls down the channels. I know you're really angry about Benteke (hence the odd comparisons) but it's not my fault.

I'd say he would be, even for that price, if it meant that we still had funds for a good winger and strong box to box mid that can tackle.

If we don't, I'd prefer the latter two and a less pricey option.

Why can't we just go and sign 2 really quick strikers. Our pressing and high tempo game was brutal, why can't we go back to that?

Benteke isn't going to give you that.

Benteke IS really quick! Besides, we've already added more mobility and pace to our attack in Ings and Origi.
