Perhaps you could go to the Tulsa Gilcrease Museum and look at some cowboy art to relax rEddie.

It can be quite a culture shock when moving to a different country. My advice would be, don 't let the bastards get you down, and don't underestimate the power of your "British" accent. They seriously do love it.

The ones who are giving you a hard time about being from Europe probably see you as a threat. Europeans are perceived as intellectual types out here.

Thanks for the wise words friend. (If they perceive me as being intellectual then theres quite a few i've fooled though)!

What you on about? Teasing someone for living in Tulsa? Behave yourself.

Fair play. I reacted (perhaps unreasonably) negatively to Shoepiss. My initial mail could come across wussy so I was fair game. I don't know (genuinely) what the negative vibe is about Tulsa so perhaps the piss stained training shoe would enlighten me! (I am joking with this latter reference - honest)...

It's a personal thing, I would not live there.

Things that I enjoy and value in a city are hard to find in Tulsa. I know you could rattle off a load of good things about the place and that's great for you. It was a joke, that you took personally and then here we are...

OK thanks. Thats your explanation. Didn't take it personally (I don't personally relate to a town I am foreign to - its just where I lay my head at night). Just thought the initial response was sarcastic and a bit cheap. I now see your position and that's fair enough. It would have been received a lot more positively by me if you had taken the time to articulate it like that first time .

Now you have a reasoned basis - in your opinion - and I can respect that type of response.

Interesting that. One forgets with the size of America just how different it can be from city to city, state to state. It was like when I was flying back from Vegas, Nevada looks like Mars, then you nod off fro an hour and you're over what looks like Devon.

One thing that fascinates me is the way various races are gravitating to different states and cities. Do you see that becoming an issue, or is it one already? For example, I believe Los Angeles's population has gone from 65% white to 65% latino in less than 10 years. Miami is something like 90% hispanic now too to the point where mayoral candidates give speaches in spanish and the bilboards are in Spanish too.

Some bloke wrote a book a few years back where he reckoned you'd end up with what were essentially two Americas as people moved to be closer to 'their own'.

Sorry Sect, you directed that to Shoepiss, but I'll chime in if that's OK. I think your observation is pretty astute. The thing that shocked me since moving to the States is the lack of ethnic integration. Ethnic bodies do seem to gravitate to their own - even within the microcosms of individual cities. I expected a far more open-minded nation (though I am basing this on living in just three States), but the level of separation between ethnicities and even the racist undertones (sometimes not so "undertone") is very evident - in my experience. The economic turmoil hasn't helped either. You "have', or you "have not" in the US - there is very little in-between. Ethnic minorities tend to suffer from lack of opportunity, lack of legal-immigrant status and no health-care (insurance). So people gravitate to their own and their common circumstances. Just one man's view...

It's human nature isn't it? We tend to surround ourselves with people like us or people we'd like to be like, while the choices may not be intended to be by race they often are for a number of reasons. The UK is the same way to be fair, places like Bradford or Birmingham having large Asian communities and then Liverpool having hardly any.

I'm not sure what you mean by it being or becoming an issue, do you mean an issue for none Hispanics? There's no official language in this country so a mayor giving their speech in the most used language seems like the right thing to do.

I wouldn't live there though, my Spanish isn't very good at all and I hate high humidity plus there's no winter skiing...

If you ever want to meet a bunch of wankers who you would want to kill you should try the British Civil Service.

I have had several dealings with a person who has point blank refused to do things that I have told him to - even questioning my career background and whether I am "qualified enough to hold a completely different opinion to him. I made several complaints about him to my manager and his complete lack of respect for my authority yet he was never disciplined. He even talked to one of the regional directors like shit when he did a presentation yet no one disciplined him again. He's been quiet recently but is now staring to annoy me and a few of the others who are my grade. I think the easiest thing is just to take him outside and shoot him.

Had one woman boss who was nothing more than a bully who made 3 women on my section go home in tears. She put me on a work plan objective for virtually no reason and wouldn't take me off it for 3 months, even blocking me going for promotion. I ended up moving away from Liverpool to get away from her and then got promoted. She was fucking gutted.

She was moved onto another team yet straight away she did exactly the same thing to 3 women and a lad on that team yet no one questioned why every team she managed had half of them on work plan objectives (civil service speak for "you're shite and this should buck your ideas up").

I worked for a shite tinpot sales company near town about 10 years ago. I was selling safety equipment to factories which was about as exciting as being in a 20 year coma. One of the lads was universally hated by everyone, he thought he was the top salesman in the place, his phonecalls were excruciatingly embarassing, it would be the same conversation with every person followed by a few minutes of complete and utter arselicking and in the end he would never get anywhere.

He used to grass up the lads in the store to the bosses when they went off and read porno mags in the bogs and shout over the tannoy if he saw any of them sitting off. He was the only one out of the regular salesmen who had not secured a big contract. To put this right he went in and checked the prices of all the items that the others would sell and told the bosses that they were giving them away for virtually fuck all. The boss decided to put the prices up and two contracts got lost when they came to be renewed, even though the original price was competitive.

He stopped being a cunt once someone managed to get a photo of him coming out of a shower on holiday displaying a microscopic penis. Once it was photocopied and left in his desk saying "I know" like out of Scary Movie he never said boo to a goose again.

Worked on the sales department at the Echo - basically the obituaries column which entails loads of scallies phoning in and paying to put messages in the Echo of gangsters they were shit scared of or thought they were mates with.

The section was full of women between 45-65 who had all worked together years - they would deliberately ignore you and just go on about something "hilarious" that happened in 1987. It was like Loose Women but ten times worse. They were also allowed to get away with the most sexist comments about men and just moan all day about their husbands. Most of their husbands had well paid jobs yet they would just whinge about them constantly and go on about diets.

One woman did the Welsh Daily Post version of the adverts yet she passed herself off as this unique intellectual talent because she was able to speak in a language no one could be arsed learning. The way she went on about it you'd think the Stargate team were going to phone her up to translate some ancient alien language.

I was quite happy to go in for about 2 weeks not talking to any of them

My experience in the states was one where it was easy to see 'racial tension' between the various races.

It was uncanny.

Heh, here's a man who's never worked in an office.

Offices are packed with cunts, I hate them - I hate jobsworths and I hate middle-aged women.

My 'favourite' ones are the those middle-aged women who are single and never have had kids... It's like they feel they need to be ROBOBITCH to explain it/show people who tough and successful.

"Oh, I'm just too strong of a woman..."

"Men are intimidated by my success(or career goals, or 'strength')..."

Fuck me.

Of course, their favourite prey seems to be pretty younger married girls with kids.

I've said for years that women aren't built psychologically for confrontation, men are, some more than others. Men can go head to head to get what they went, where as women tend to have to be underhand. They often do this by trying to undermine each other's reputation or by trying to appear indespensible. You see this most in an office environment. I'm a woman, this is my desk with pictures on of my stupid fucking kids and my dog, I MUST protect my status as the woman with the desk, I will do this by whispering about how 'so and so' was late or isn't very good at her job, then the fact her status has dropped will make me even more valuable to the business and cement my place in the grand scheme of things. If I can find a group of likeminded individuals and we 'cross the streams of cuntery' we can destroy her even quicker and we'll all be that much safer.

Working in these environments have actually brought me close to breakdown. Not even because it was aimed at me, more the fact I just feel depressed when I come across the petty and the mundane.

Poison is a cowardly, and underhanded weapon. It is used by women, and honorless assassins.
