Kop Magazine are reporting that Roy Hodgson

But he isn't Dan mate.

The best available is Pellegrini. According to AS he's interested, speaks English perfectly and has a fundamentally different approach to the game than either Roy Hodgson or Rafa.

If change is what's so desperately needed I can't fathom replacing an allegedly conservative manager with an inferior version of the same thing.

If his appointment is just to steady the ship, then my heart is sinking because that would strongly imply that Liverpool fear the worst when it comes to Gerrard & Torres as they must know that an appointment like Hodgson is not going to appease them.

I do get what your saying mate, above all Roy has Premier League experience, he knows the teams, the players and the way the game is played in England and IMO that is a massive advantage. Pellegrini has not managed at the levels Hoddsgon has (lets not count Madrid as he was a disaster there) and Pellegrini has no idea about the English game.

I agree with what your saying about our big names not being impressed enough to stay but to be honest i think their minds are already made up, lack of Europa League & Current Owners don't really give them a great reason to stay, lets pray they do and lets pray that if Roy comes in we can sort things out on the pitch and try and get some pride back into our great club.

I don't think I will particularly enjoy his brand of football, I'm not convinced he will be more than a quick sticking plaster until the club is sold, and I'm disappointed that we seem to have ruled out approaching any foreign managers in our bid to get the latest fashionable British man, but other than that great!

If we really have given him the job, I just hope the rumours about this being part of a new bootroom philosophy with Roy, Kenny and Sammy bringing Carra along as a coach is true because that might make a certain amount of sense.

Roy´s brand of football makes Rafa look like Zdenek Zeman, so yes I agree with you. After Houllier and Rafa I would want us to have a bit more of a attacking manager that Roy.

On a good note, everyone that complained about too much squad rotation under Rafa will see the light as Roy will play the same fucking team every fucking game.

See us crash spectaculary in feb/march next year if he´s appointed.

1. He hasn't been appointed;

2. It's not snobbery to hold an opinion on someone's ability - just ask all the Lucas 'lovers'....

3. I like Hodgson the man, and think he'll be a steady manager if he does come;

4. I'm not expecting great things, but he will have my support, if he comes;

5. He's not goblinesque in any way, which is nice;

6. For all those asking why players or figures at the club won't speak out against Twit and Twat, don't expect Woy to wock the boat;

7. Jose? Jose? Jose?

All of the above from me as well.

There's a huge degree of snobbery about loads of Reds. It's the same shite that saw Peter Crouch ridiculed before he'd even kicked a ball for us. I reckon Roy Hodgson'll be a good move for us, but I'll wait and see before I make up my mind. Bill Shankly joined us from Huddersfield having managed a number of other clubs first. Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan and Kenny Dalglish had never managed anyone.

I suppose it just depends what your expectations are. When Shankly came here, we had none. After him, it was a closed shop anyway. We've been getting told on here for years that expectations are rightly massively high at this club, because of who we are and what we have achieved, and that talk of finishing in the top 4 being a relative success, is an insult to the club. I guess everything has changed though, seeing as it's no longer a stick to beat the former manager with.

As regards Hodgson, I quite like the fella. He's done a half decent job everywhere he's been - bar Blackburn, and he's mildly repescted throughout Europe. He's a good football man. Whether I want him as a Liverpool manager, is a completely different story.

Out of interest, what do people think would be a succesful season, were Hodgson to take charge ?

The goatee makes all the difference. It makes Woy looks like he's spent the first 50 years of his life in the Scandinavian porn industry.

Managing us will be a piece of cake compared to ducking and weaving out of the way of other well endowed 'performers'.

He'll have my support regardless of his facial stylings, but I'd prefer it if he did grow that goatee.

Hodgson's teams have always played nice football, the long ball last season was used to utilise Zamora ( and it worked) He made the best of what he had that is the sign of a good manager. If he comes to us, Lets see what team he fields come start of next season, cause it could look very different to the current team.

One thing is for sure, our football will be better under Hodgson than it was under Rafa, whether or not the players will be well thats a different story.

Disastrous?

1. Barcelona - 99pts +74 GD

2.Real Madrid - 96pts +67 GD

3. Valencia - 71pts +19 GD

Bit harsh...

Mate a chimpanzee could have managed Real madrid last season, fact being they spent hundreds of millions added to an already very expensively assembled squad and they won absolutely nothing, that is a calamitous season for Real Madrid. Hence Pellegrini getting the bullet after one season.

What I don't get is the people who, at the end of last season, were discussing Rafa's slide to seventh with the current squad as a disaster, citing 'bizarre substitutions' and 'losing the dressing room' as contributory factors in missing out on the Champions League. Suddenly Hodgson's in the frame and it's all 'steady the ship' and 'consolidate our position' and nobody is speaking with any ambition at all, nobody's talking about challenging for the title or the CL and suddenly 7th is apparently acceptable before the new season's even begun.

***EDIT*** Just to say as an addendum, I'd rather we were going for a more inspiring manager, I don't have faith that Hodgson's appointment would buoy the likes of Gerrard and Torres, I daresay it would hasten their departure. Pellegrini with a season at RM behind him, in which he guided a largely new team of players (admittedly expensive ones) to a close second behind Barcelona would suit the role more I think. But if Hodgson's appointed he'll still have my backing.

I strongly disagree, Roy has put defense first and always been a fan of the long ball.

Let me add that I have followed his career closely for 20 years as Roy and Bob Houghton set the standard for swedish coaches many years ago.

I agree that he´s a good manager that has been grossly underrated in the UK for many, many years. I just believe that our football will be back to Houlliers europe away tactics, which were shocking.

Wouldn´t it be nice with a manager that brings some flair also?

I would say in response to Ian Garro. A decent fight for top 4, to take the cup competitions seriously again and a decent run in the UEFA Cup. Let's face it if he can get Fulham to the final from the start of the competition then hopefully we should be in with a shout.

To just concentrate on his strengths as a coach and do his best.

I think we may have a season like Houllier's first back in 99-2000.

This is the interesting question. Have the goalposts moved now Rafa's gone?

Must say, if he is appointed then it definitely hits home just how much of an attractive proposition we are. The idea that we'd still be having the world's top managers forming an orderly queue outside the Main Stand has been made a total mockery of.

He'll get my full backing and support but fucking hell, what an eye opener. What a state this club's in when we lose a manager to the European Champions and potentially recruit a manager with no real tangible success in his long career other than being moderately successful with second rate clubs or in second rate leagues, Inter Milan many years ago apart.

I have nothing against Hodgson as a man, I respect him and I don't doubt for one minute he has a good reputation throughout Europe. He's got the most out of an average Fulham side and I do think he is a good manager. I just don't see him being at the level we should be aiming for though. But then again, what level should we be aiming for? Are we deluded, is this our level now? Has the club fallen this much? I hope not.

Maybe I am wrong and this is the big break he has been waiting for, but I doubt it. I can see us being steady and a bit more consistent but I still doubt we'll progress much higher than the 7th we finished last season, even if we manage to keep Torres, Masch and Stevie. The investment in the squad this summer has a lot to do with that too, but then that is also linked in to why Rafa isn't here now. The squad will not improve barring a miracle in the coming weeks, so I suppose the question is will a new manager be able to consolidate our position and stop us falling further? Quite sad that it's come to that.

What it boils down to again for me is nothing will improve until we are shut of these yank bastards. Nothing.

Hodgson's teams have always played nice football...

That's just plain wrong. Fulham has played some decent counter attacking football, true, but that is totally different from what is expected at a club like ours. I was a season ticket holder the two years he coached/managed Viking. The football was more often than not like what we've seen at Anfield this season. Boring, lacking of ideas and set out not to loose. He got decent results, nothing extraordinary (except, a few good results in the UEFA cup).

One thing is for sure, our football will be better under Hodgson than it was under Rafa, whether or not the players will be well thats a different story.

It will probably be a little bit better than last season. However, it will never come close to the heights we've experienced under Benitez.

I really like Roy but is it the right time to be appointing a new permanent manager?

Taking the owners at face value (lets not get into a debate about them here) and the club is up for sale, when new owners come in wont they want to appoint their own man?

For me Kenny would be ideal to caretaker the role until the ownership issue is resolved. Obviously though, we have very little indication as to how long the sale is going to take and if Kenny wants to do it or not.

If Roy is appointed I will give him mu full support and look forward to a new approach.

Erm, no. Steadying the ship means getting back in the top 4, getting the morale of the squad back, having a manager who just gets on with his job rather than picking fights everywhere.

We need to steady the ship because we've just had one of the worst seasons in years. Once we've got back in to the top (Ownership issues aside) we can look towards being ambitious again.

Also, I seem to recall his Blackburn side played some good stuff in 97/98 and Fulham haven't been that bad. Seems a bit unfair to criticise him for being negative when it isn't all that true, and who's to say he'd be negative if he had Towwes and Gewwawd at his disposal?

So its not an insult to this club to say top 4 is a success any more then ? I'm not looking for an argument, or a slagging match here, but what's changed since the end of last season then ?

I never said Hodgson wasn't defensive, but Mourinho is also defensive but his teams still play nice football as does Roy's, big difference there mate.

I have also followed his career closely from club to international level we need to stop the rot befor eits gets better mate, there's no quick fix and there no magic wand.

Of course i would have liked Hiddink,Mourinho,van Gaal etc but that was never in teh cards for us, at the moment with the way things are i think Hodgson is a good choice.

It may have escaped your and others attention but all six of the teams who finished above us last season are likely to be better placed to strengthen their squad than us. It was vital we finished in the CL places last year, and not having done so will accelerate this.

I wouldn't have had massive hopes for any manager next season including Rafa, but I was hoping a focus on team building and positive passing football from a new man would get more out of the squad and possibly allow us to sneak back into the top four.

I think Hodgson will be good at the former, but his teams have never been known for the latter so it could be more of the same, in which case it's unlikely in my opinion that we will break back into the top four. I hope I'm wrong obviously, but people's lower expectations may not be as simple as some are painting it.

I'll tell you now, I'd love it, I'd love it if Torres and Gerrard said they will stay because they admire Hodgson

I've kept really quiet about this, but I'd love it, I'd absolutely love it if we beat Inter Milan in the UEFA Cup when Rafa gets Inter knocked out of the CL

I disagree with this mate. The fights needed picking within the club as far as I am concerned. Had they not have been picked and he'd simply of bowed to the yanks' demands I dread to think what position the club would be in now. Those fights alerted us and the world to what those bastards are really like behind the bullshit pr speak that they charmed us with.

You're right on that score, but he was fighting too many battles at times. I think he was even fighting himself at times.

While it was good to have Rafa fighting the cause against the owners, he could have helped himself at times by just keeping his head down.
