The confused world of a Liverpool fan

"Rafa out!"

"No wait, i've changed my mind, Rafa is the best manager for us!"

"Looking at the bigger picture, it's the owners fault, not Rafa's"

"We've lost a few games already, Rafa out!"

The above is the mindset of many fans the past 12 months. From wanting him out in the new year, to loving him after the Madrid/Manchester wins, then realising what happened at the club in the summer. Then finally ignoring all facts given towards you and wanting Rafa out again. It seems like a never-ending circle with some people. They believe what the gutter press and the likes of Collymore say who have an agenda towards us. There is a reason that Rafa doesn't talk to Bascombe anymore. There is a reason that Carra had to ring Talksport to defend himself. They have agenda's against us and the confused reds are influenced by the media hate. I am not writing this to influence the confused, or to tell the haters they're wrong but to give them the facts, from both sides of the argument.

I was in Greece last year and was talking to some Scousers who were fully behind Rafa but they were happy to point out some of his flaws and didn't agree with him on many points. They were fairly balanced supporters. Then, I met some other Liverpool supportes who were back from purchasing their copies of The S*n and wearing their Liverpool tops. They were the one's who were loudly shouting that Rafa should go in a bar packed full of fans, watching our game against Middlesbrough. When asked why they wanted Rafa out, they just picked comments out from the rag, and didn't form their own opinion.

Now, i'm not saying that all people who hate Rafa are S*n reading wools, but they are listening to such biased opinions, that it is influencing them. Yes, Rafa has made many mistakes, including which players he has bought and his tactical errors. However, if we were to sack Rafa, he would be entitled to a pay off worth over £20 million, Gillett would not pay it, Hicks would not pay it. The money to pay Rafa off would come from our transfer funds. If we cannot improve our squad we could miss out on the top 4.

Furthermore, my opinion here isn't that we should only stick by Rafa because we can't afford anyone else but because he is the best man for the job. Now, for the haters to endulge in, here are some of the bad things Rafa has done.

* Messed up by not bringing in a replacement for Keane.

* He isn't a manager who will put his arm around a player.

* Has made a few tactical errors in the past with his team selection.

* He has put too much faith in the (awful) scouting system and has bought some awful players.

Now, lets compare it with the good things he's done for the club.

* He has built a brilliant squad of players and took the team forwards.

* Has always been in support of the fans.

* Gave us some of the best nights of our lives (In a football way).

* Made the club more marketable.

* Was so close to winning the title last season.

* Stood up to Ferguson bullying others.

The good outweighs the bad here. Now, like a true red such as Collymore would be happy if we lost if it meant Rafa would leave, are you happy to get your information from someone who would like the club he supports to lose? He claims Rafa doesn't have a winning mentality, but he is clearly showing his lack of a winning mentality.

I am not telling you who to listen to but think about where you get your information from and what their agenda is.

Support is the key word here and the club needs your support.

With the exception of Gerrard, Reina and Torres, we have a lower mid-table side, and a relegation side's bench. Mascherano's overrated (only by Liverpool fans), and Johnson's not a great full back.

That's not a brilliant squad of players by the wildest stretch of the imagination.

So to summarize, you want Rafa to stay just like the erudite, balanced, armani-clad, cultured fans you met in Greece. And those who didn't were Liverpool top, Sun-hat wearing, opinion-stealing, loud-mouthed tossers. It's subtle, I'll give you that much.

Yes of course. I was going to respond to this earlier but my college block the FF (but not the GF?) so couldn't respond.

Seriously though, the point I was trying to make was that some people need to take the whole situation into account. Anyone who wants Rafa out before the owners has not thought through the consequences.

What are you on about?

Have you thought about the consequences of him staying an continuing with this turgid football we see week in week out.

I'd be quite happy (well not happy) but feel a bit better if fucking Keagan was here and we were at least having a go and scoring goals.

Our style of play is non existent and after the time and money he has had we should at least be able to point to that.

I explained that in the OP. I would prefer to give Rafa more time rather than sack him and pay him off then bring someone else in just as expensive and give them no money to buy players.

We've spent less than £3 million in the past 2 seasons. Is that the sort of form you expect from title contenders? And don't respond with "Well Man Utd got £80 million off Ronaldo" because unlike Man Utd, we don't have a title winning squad.

So at your college you can't talk about sport but you can talk about porn?

What a cool philosophy!!!

* He has built a brilliant squad of players and took the team forwards

team forwards from Houllier - kind of

brilliant squad - no

* Has always been in support of the fans

Rafa is Rafa's no.1 fan

* Gave us some of the best nights of our lives (In a football way)

Istanbul was great and Athens was shit

* Made the club more marketable

this is down to Ayre not Rafa

* Was so close to winning the title last season

we could've won it had Rafa targeted the rights player in summer 2008

* Stood up to Ferguson bullying others

smacked of small team mentality - the same that we accuse teh bitters of

Rafa has had a go and spend a lot of money - yes if the owners had been decent owners we would probably be doing better and maybe even have won the league by now - but they have been shit and he hasn't won anything since they came along

all of this has compounded his errors in the transfer market and dodgy team selections formations on the pitch so that there is no where left for him to go but leave

even if we get new owners in teh summer i do not want Rafa at the club to mess things up with his negative football

Well said Simon. But I think this should be in this thread.
