Can I not just use liverpoolway.co.uk or do I have to use something different?

You need a program or a server to provide DNS, domain name server resolution for you, translating The Liverpool Way Website into the IP Address of the server.

So buying the liverhost.com domain and keeping things as they are would be the easiest option, no?

Even cheaper would be free nameserver - Google Search. As in zero cost. Not sure which ones are good or better than others though. Most likely also easier.

Yeah this seems better, as buying liverhost doesn't seem to be an option, as godaddy says its already taken (which it is, but its expired).

Just had a quick look, zonedit.com seem to get good reviews from the 3 articles I've seen

Yeh i was having that problem. It kept coming up "Internet Explorer cannot display this page" It was the same on my IPod too.

What I need to know, is do I need to do anything else, such as tell the hosting company of the change? And how long would it take for the new domain to be working etc?

There is no reason to spend money on that. Although I must admit I don't know the specifics of your setup.

Cant get on from my laptop at home, DNS problem it says.

 

Well I`ll have to take my job laptop with me home today I guess.

 

The problem started between 8.15 and 8.30 Tuesday night by the way, I had no problems other than the server overload before that.

For what it's worth I havn't had a single problem other than the server overload message. And my pc is almost always switched on and connected to the interweb as I usually check out the new posts when I walk by.

Looks like the problem is sorted for me as I could get on from my private laptop at home again.

Strange, now there seems to be specific threads that will not load and I get the DNS server message.

Nothing to do with me. The transfer window shutting is the reason for that. The day Keane left the site was nuts traffic wise.

 

I haven't addressed the server load problem yet, I'm trying to fix the DNS thing. It's in hand, and hopefully will be fixed tonight.

Yes, I keep getting the 'Windows can't find liverpoolway etc' quite frequently the last three or four days. All other addresses OK but not the most important

This is the nameserver problem. I know how to fix it, but I can't do it at the moment due to circumstances beyond my control. I expect it to be sorted by tomorrow, fingers crossed.
