The problem with that is a large proportion of arseholes will label her ‘scum’ for her accent, single mother status, lack of education, fashion choices and no matter how well she does these will, in their eyes, always define her. This will only entrench their belief she’s a ‘chav’ and ‘common’ two words you hear quite a lot when speaking about her.

 

All the while the genuine scumbag is lauded by the cap doffers as something aspirational and to be venerated.

 

That’s how class based divide and conquer works, sadly.

I've said it before, attack and fight dirty. It's what they do. Make people sit up, take note and start asking questions. 

There is so much ammunition to fire at them.

You’re almost certainly right sadly. It would be great if she could position herself as a voice for all the; plebs with regional accents, single mothers and fathers, those who haven’t had access to the educational opportunities others have, those who dress for themselves etc.

 

I’m sure she is trying to do this and perhaps recognises that she needs to talk like those people as well as for them.

 

Probably a battle she’ll ultimately lose, but still one worth fighting. Somebody has to.

My mum knows her (and she’s a lifelong Labour voter), her words, not mine ‘thick as pigs shit and workshy’.  Although she saves her real venom for her husband.

Secondary point is that those people don’t vote in huge numbers, research shows this, it’s why the Tories can throw as much shit at the least fortunate as they don’t tend to engage and, bar us lefty navel gazers, nobody genuinely cares as they’re out of sight and out of mind until the Hail needs a headline to angry up the perpetually angry.

 

Mate of mine works with Raynor quite a lot and loves her, but she’s not sharp. Passion and speaking out will only work in short doses and when she’s pressed she falters as she’s not quick on her feet.

 

You’re right though, somebody has to as you can only squeeze so much.

I've not seen the plan or any of the arguments against it; but you can't honestly pretend that the Guardian quoting the BoD on the supposed racism of Socialists is a reliable source of impartial truth any more than you can rely on (for example) the Daily Mail quoting Nigel Farridge on immigration.

If this is right then I can't see how left wingers can stand any chance of getting a candidate in a leadership contest now.

 

 

So what are McDonnell and the others in the Socialist Campaign Group going to do now? They have no chance of challenging Starmer if it passes and the party is being gutted of democracy. I suppose once again they'll "stay and fight" instead of leaving.

 

Attachment to political parties is a huge problem, if people would accept that it's ok to leave and start something new off maybe this country would actually have some fucking change at some point in the future instead of this crap.

 

Good luck "pressuring" Starmer with your left wing policy ideas.

Van der Zyl and Starmer must be a bit dim if they are pushing the independent process , as most of the anti-semitism cases brought are spurious at best and I would assume lawyers with no skin in the game won't be as compliant as Evans and the NEC in suspending people and even members who are actually Jewish  just because they don't like Starmer. God forbid, but they might actually need evidence.
