That early? I didn't know that. Always though it was pretty grown-up stuff.

It was used to get over the controversial side of human nature, individual welfare versus the common good.

Same here mate.

Juno and The Paycock too. (I think this indicated an Irish Catholic slant at the school!)

I remember it split our class, the lads loved it, the lasses hated it...I wonder why.

We did The Tempest (utter shite) and The Merchant of Venice (ace).

That, Simon Armitage, and Carol Ann Duffy. Genuinely can't remember anything else from two years of English Literature.

I got a Grade 1 in English Literature, probably one of my favourite subjects as well as Geography, Sport and Drama. The books which formed the curriculum were a bit hit and miss though. As I said, I found Macbeth utterly boring, but the teacher chose me to read the part of Macbeth whilst we recited the book so a lot of stuff stuck.

Really looking forward to the kids (second due any day) getting to the point where I can go over my old favourites.

Loved Roald Dahl, specifically The Twits, George's Marvellous Medicine and Danny Champion of the World.

My favourite book as a kid was probably The Times Atlas though. Literally spend untold amount time just pouring over it. Not sure I'll introduce the Kids to it though
