Summer 2017 Transfer Thread

Looks like Neymar might be confirmed for PSG shortly.

The latest rumours are that he's trying to persuade Coutinho to join him there too. Good luck with FFP rules if you're paying close to 200mil for Neymar then buying Coutinho as well.

The thing that bugs me in general (I mainly accepted that Coutinho would eventually be off a couple of years ago) isn't that we failed to sign Keita or Van Dijk, it's that we don't seem to have other players we can buy quickly if those signings don't work out. How can we not have that sorted if we've got the type of money required for those transfers in the first place? If we had around 70mil to pay for Keita for instance, we should have a cheaper backup or two that we can bid a good amount of that money on from the off and be more assured that it'll work out. Most of us on here could think of good players we could pay way less than 70mil for, the club should have that sorted too.

We still have time though so maybe that'll happen anyway.

This disregards everything Klopp is about. he doesnt use a scatter gun approach to players. He's not going to be like a kid in a sweetie shop where if his first choice isnt available, he going to dip in every bin to see what that particular sweet is like.

I think people are massively overreacting. Since when has any club failing to sign its primary target suddenly successfully signed its alternative to that player? Doesnt happen that often if ever.

Nobody knew about Wjinaldum last season! Same with Salah this season - reported in the Echo we inquired about Sanchez but don't want a loan.

COUTINHO 'ALMOST CERTAIN'

Philippe Coutinho is "almost certain" to join Barcelona this summer, according to Catalan newspaper Sport.

They report Liverpool have accepted Coutinho's desire to move to the Nou Camp and are willing to negotiate with Barca.

The La Liga giants are reportedly prepared to offer up to €85m (£76m) for the Brazil international

Catalan newspaper mate!

Do you seriously think he will go for £75m?

So let's say we do lose Coutinho from a squad that a lot of people think is not deep enough to handle the extra games we have this season....

What do those here who are saying we don't currently need to buy/we should only get Klopps number 1 targets as things stand think we ahould do IF Cou goes?

Where did I say anything about scatter gun approaches? I said we should have backups in place. Most of us could think of backups in this thread if Keita and Van Dijk don't work out, and we could really do with more players. You'd think the professionals at the club would be able to sort that out without resorting to scatter gun when it's their job to prepare for and then sort things out in this window. Especially if there's the type of cash that we should have available.

I'm not even in hysterical fanny mode, I'm more baffled than anything else at the moment. Like I said though we still have time left.

Yet again!

I didn't say they weren't - I said they played the youth teams in both! (along with most other premiership teams).

They mix it up because they have nice big squads, enabling them to be competitive on all fronts.

Whereas we have to pick and choose which battles we think we can win with the resources available.

It's normal isn't it?  It's what Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs do... they all do that, why shouldn't we?

Spurs - sold Bale

Chelsea - sold, I dunno, loads of players

Man Utd - sold Rooney

Arsenal - sold everyone

We're just the same as them.

You know since we last won the fa cup we have gone out in either the 3rd or 4th round 7 times.

Disgraceful rexcord for a club of our stature.

That's what all the top clubs do, it's normal.

Chelsea?  They went out in an early round once.

Man Utd?  So did they.

Man City?  Rarely win the FA Cup

Arsenal?  They win it loads, but only because the others don't try.

We're just like them, and our owners are just as good as all of those clubs too.

All teams lose key players - it is how well placed you are to deal with it/what you do with the money that matters.

I can just see that if Cou went we would do nothing to try and replace him/use the money to improve our options.

Yeah, I'm just coming at it from a new angle where everything is great and normal and we're just like the other top clubs who all do the same thing as us.

Ah..

I like it.

I am gonna forget all our early fa cup exits to the likes of Oldham, Barnsley, Reading and Wolves in recent years because it is exactly the same as all our rivals.

As evidenced by the results of those teams since we last won it.

Chelsea have not won it 4 times

Arsenal have not won it 3 times

The manc clubs have not won it once each...

Those four clubs have not won 9 of the 11 since we last won it

Sorry mate, but they don't!

They play the kids and I think you know full well that they do.

Just looking at fa cup winners list has made me realise that Wigan Athletic have won a major trophy more recently than us.

Wigan Fucking Athletic.

Just let that sink in.

Wigan Athletic.

Every person involved at Liverpool Football Club in that period should hang their heads in shame that the above is true.
