Felt a bit sorry for Skrtel myself today if I'm honest. While not the greatest cb we've ever had he has been a good servant over the years for us. Tough day for Martin.

Something similar happened last season, Lovren and Sakho got a little run, we conceded only 2 in 3 games, including a clean sheet away to Spurs, he come back in undeservedly and we were 2-0 down in about 8 minutes away to West Ham. He has a shockingly negative impact on our defence and has for years.

Several errors today. In some ways he can count himself unlucky, as they were getting well on top with Wanyama bossing the midfield when he came on, and Mane offering a completely different level of threat to what they looked like in the first half. 

 

So, while Skrtel can count himself a bit unlucky, I doubt he will be here next season. Someone on the continent will come in for him and we'll get a few bob and happily let him leave.
