Did you play this as a kid?

We never had it in Australia when I was a kid.

I was gutted and really jealous of kids in England, cos I'd see ads for it in Shoot! magazine.

I had this game called Casdon Soccer, with a stupid bumpy ridged pitch and knobs behind the goals to control the players. And a picture of Bobby Charlton on the box.

Shite, but beggars couldn't be choosers.

Asked Santa for subbuteo and got Casdon Soccer instead (possibly because my dad's a Manu fan and it had Bobby the Tout on the front). There was one combination move you could do which was a sure fire winner. Send the ball up the pitch using the hollows (Each 'hollow' was like Einsteins gravity well). By the time it got to the striker it was moving at near light speed allowing the striker to wallop it into the top corner. Scenes would inevitably ensue.

Subbuteo is just reaching NZ now.

Not quite true.

this is mine - it's been sitting in a cupboard for 20 years.

I bought it second hand, when my boy was young, so I could go back to my own childhood haha. We used to play it quite a bit while he was growing up, but he moved on and became an All Blacks fan - now he lives in Aussie and watches League.

Subbuteo was right up there when my brothers and I were kids. Loved it, and the three of us had a family mini league of our own.

Also enjoyed Waddington's "Campaign" (Napoleanic Wars)

                                "           "Totopoly"    (Horse Racing)

"            "Formula One" (simple yet brilliant board game)

                               "            "Exploration"    (adventure board game)

and my favourite kid's board game "GO" also a Waddington's board game, which was a travel game.

Good memories.

That might be worth a few quid nowadays.

Loved Subbuteo and Super Striker too.
