That was a brilliant move by Rafa, no matter how much Thommo tries to take the credit.

When you consider Houllier played either Traore or Biscan at CB for his last 2 years here and left Carra at RB, even with Finnan available in 03/04, he must surely have suffered mentally after the heart surgery.

Prior to the game in an interview on ITV I like the way Gerrard had a dig at the youngsters at the club- when the interviewer mentioned how we've uncovered some real gems Gerrard questions it quite forcifully, basically accusing some of them of thinking the hardwork is over now they played for the firsts.

It must be hard as once the likes of Sterling get the big contract its got to to be hard for Gerrard to demand more from them if they have the mentality he was suggesting some of them have

Stop dissecting every-fucking-thing. One of the reasons why modern football is as unenjoyable as it is.

I don't really remember Gerrard being anything like thinking he'd arrived, in fact he was still driving his dads silver Rover a good while after he had got in the first team, besides even if him or fowler had acted like that then you could excuse it because they actually 'had' arrived and were brilliant at that age, I think the likes of Sterling has pretty much been shite with a few exceptions.

At this moment Sterling seems to be turning into another Babel.

Tony Tony Tony Tony. Tony..........Tony

To pluck my post out and hold it up as unneccesary dissection among a thread where there is lengthy thought given to the origins in the English language to the phrase "cut the mustard/muster" is a tad unfair I would say old chap.

It hardly dissection- just found it intriguing that the captain of our club was very publicly questioning the quality of some of our prized youngsters on prime time TV

Gerrard's training with them and around them every day so i'll take his word for it. Maybe they need to keep being pushed and a reality check and need to take a leaf out of Henderson's book in terms of application and attitude.

That being said, I don't like the way the youngsters have been scapegoated at times this season. We had a very experienced team out at Zenit, yet it was still the youngsters getting slaughtered by Rodgers the next day. The reality is, with youngsters you get inconsistency, and we're also getting the same inconsistency from the senior players as well. The more we tell these young players they aren't good enough, they may start to believe it.
