Xabi Alonso-The Liverpool Maestro

People talk about natural goalscorers, for me Xabi must be the most natural passer of a football I have ever seen. In my book still the best passer in world football, and that's taking every aspect of passing into account. Accuracy, range of passing, overview and deciding when and where to pass it. And making it all look so easy. A true maestro.

In the 2007 season a lot of people were questioning him for not playing enough penetrating passes. We remember the great moments but there were enough people saying he doesnt score enough, he doesnt have enough assists and asking 'what does he do' for it to be a thing.

I still think he was a great player and while he won trophies alongside Gerrard Didi and Momo in midfield, the mascherano, Alonso, Gerrard axis was as good as it gets.

With Torres in-front of them and Carragher one of the centre halves. How didn't we win the league. Oh yeah, Dossena etc.

'Slow' Alonso snubbed by Juventus

Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri revealed he turned down the chance to sign Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso in the summer because he was "too slow".

The Spain international described Juve as "a great club" amid reports that the Italian giants were in talks with Liverpool about a £16m move for him.

But Ranieri said: "He left me perplexed by the slowness of his movement.

"He would have found it hard to support our midfield line seeing as our wingers don't give support like at Liverpool."

Juventus, who signed Denmark's Christian Poulsen from Sevilla instead, currently lie 11th in Serie A with two wins from their first six matches
