In all seriousness, if (and we're talking a massive one here) Australia can keep England to under 200, there is still something resembling a game. That said, England can be all but out of sight by the end of today by simply keeping wickets in hand.

Lyth's test record is clearly poor. I would persist with him a little longer. I think he has the ability. He has faced some good opening bowlers this summer. If we get rid, we're just starting again. I'm not sure Hales or anyone else is really knocking the door. I'd show a little more patience on this one.

I've said before I'd rather Hales score a quick 30/40 and get out than Lyth scrabble around for an hour and get out in single fingers.

I completely agree with Jairzs point he should have been given a chance against the windies but shit happens and you have to adjust at Test level.

I'd rather see Hales try and recreate the Trescothick role than have two dabbers as openers.

He looks out of his depth at this level imo, I would be tempted to give him a last chance against the Aussies if we win the Ashes in this test to see if he can bat himself into a decent knock with no pressure whatsoever. We could easily move Ali up to open, especially being as we are playing SA next on their turf, we could then bring in Rashid as a specialist spinner.

I don't think Eng will get to 200 on this pitch. 130 lead going into 2nd innings could do it thought. Both sides batting is crap.

At 150/3 I'd disagree, Root has batted very good so far and is set, Bairstow looks good and apart from Starc the Aussie bowling has been shite. We'll get at least a 250 lead imo.

This could well be over in 2 days at this rate.

I was thinking 2 and a half days myself, the Aussies aren't set up to bat for time with patience, they'll come out fighting and going for their shots. If we have a 250 lead which is more than likely now they could easily crumble again, if not they'd probably leave us with shit loads of time to knock off 100 runs if that. Only one winner from here on in imo.
