When are we likely to get definitive stadium news?

so what does this actually mean - it's now all systems go and we can see designs and schedules or is this just another PR stunt to pretend people are making progress and maintain some political goodwill?

It's a step forward but there's no way those heads of terms are actually binding on anyone.

It’s another step in the right direction for redevelopment.

The test for the whole project will be when the new capacity, and facilities that will be enabled ,are revealed.

The plans are an open secret. Main Stand done first. Building over the top of it. Increasing capacity by about 10k (with lots of premium seating) followed by bigger Annie Road bringing the capacity to 58.5k with option to add more seats between the two to take it over 60k.

We win the league and offers from sponsors will start coming from all angles no?

So why rush ahead and expand when possible partners in a new stadium will be more forthcoming in a few months time?

Winning the league will be a huge financial shot in the arm for all the increased value in the LFC brand (hate that term, but it is what it is). The problem with Anfield is that it's such an iconic name, it's hard to sponsor it in the way they can with Etihad or Emirates. It's akin to Old Trafford, no matter what they name it, it'll always be Anfield / Old Trafford.

I still think a new stadium is too big an investment for FSG, and it seems (as with any club) it's a gut wrencher for a lot of fans who'd prefer to stay put in their spiritual home.

But FSG might be persuaded to choose a more adventurous expansion (if there are multiple options on the table).... i.e. even more capacity / more lavish facilities etc.

Whatever they do, it can only be better for LFC surely? every year out of CL even for a club as big as Liverpool who can still make a fortune outside of it, is still a real hindrance, and every year back in CL is a massive boost to the coffers and pulling power for players.

The interest will be in the detail.

The new ARE will have to be as big as the Holte End, and certainly be larger than the Kop. Will the Anfield Rd be bridged or closed? If it is bridged, it will kick a hole in the facilities available.

The new Main Stand will need to be as big as the OT North Stand, which is a colossal structure. The large three storey Trinity Rd at Villa Park has superb dressing room, medical and hospitality facilities, but has a capacity only a thousand bigger than the existing Main Stand.

Whatever the exact detail, the centre of gravity of the ground will be a mirror of what it is now with the |Kop and Centenary becoming the junior stands.

The 15,000 or so extra capacity will be instantly swallowed by 5000 premium seat holders and 10,000 season tickets.

My own view is that the squandered New Anfield option was a wasted opportunity to build a statement 70k stadium fit for a world class club. The chance to do so was a once in a generation window, now gone.I accept that we will now have to make do with a half new, half old, stadium, which still undersupplies our fanbase.

AFAIK the new main stand will be about 1000 seats less than the OT North Stand. Along with a complete refurbishment of all the internals that remain. The leak i heard about had Anfield Road diverted rather than bridged.

The leaks are saying

Main Stand - 20,480

Anfield Road - 13,900

Which brings us to about 58k. So yes the Annie Rd will be bigger than the Kop.

At some point they could expand the Kop. But it would require a new roof. The Kemlyn is boxed in and the Skerries Rd houses were done up so no chance of more demolition.

So, these pictures are doing the rounds on Twitter now - apparently emailed architect images of New Anfield.

"From the content of the email the date for the planning application was seen as the 28th or 29th of April which also coincide with a number of recent media reports."

Could this be the real deal?

Still it’s not so bad for what was never viable and couldn’t be done, on a site that could never be acquired, in a surrounding development that was in too many bits and was just a splash of paint anyway.

Don’t worry Xerxes lad, you’re safe. Your mega money-hungry flop will never be built and never will crash. You can bitch forever. Enjoy.

That's the one i saw a few weeks ago. Unless someone has been pranking a hell of a lot of people its the real deal. Main stand is enormous. There may be some slight changes but that's what we're getting. Looks great imo.
