Jim Beglin - Worst Commentator Ever

Jim did us proud as a player - will always be fondly remembered for his bullet header against Panathinaikos in the 85 semi at the Kop end.

Would have made many more appearances for the club but for that cunt Stevens (great celebration when Rushie scored the winner in the 85th though - almost fell out the old Upper Park End).

As far as co-commentators / pundits in general are concerned there are so many more deserving of our contempt there's hardly the time or space to compose the list.

the commentator should know and be able to do both

I imagine if you have played the game to a high level, you will have a greater appreciation and knowledge of it.

Motty can tell you who won the FA Vase 1973 4th round tie between Wanglers FC and FC Snatch, but is he any good at explaining why Kenny decided to go with 3 in defence v Chelsea?

There are probably many like you, Mike who solely want the action described; the pundits seem to get a roasting from fans on all forums. Personally I am not fussed either way. I take an interest in the media and broadcasting but am generally fairly detached from both when it comes to analysis and opinion on football.

yeah dont get me wrong it doesnt overly bother me, just something you notice.

problem ex players get is that even if theyre not biased, people at home will still think they are if the team they are playing was the ex players.

Lets be fair too,a lot of players havent got a clue what theyre watching either.

They get their coaching badges given to them without having to do anything and thats a FACT!

My personal hatred goes to Andy Townsend,I fuckin hate him.

He's alright, his accent is very put-on. You'll find it in a lot of Paddies trying to be understood. He's from feckin Waterford ffs.

Wonderful player for Rovers and Liverpool, but not that great of a commentator. Still remember Dunphy giving him a tongue-lashing on air after oozing over a shite manc away performance years ago in the CL. He's also the only person I've heard from Waterford with a Dublin 4 accent.

"Worst Commentator Ever" is probably stretching things a bit, but he's at his most irritating commentating for RTE on Ireland games. So much so that I often end up having to listen to Hawthorn "Landsdowne Roat" on Sky instead.

said this loads of times but why do they need 2 commentators, should just have 1 motty.

seems to be a modern thing, look back at all the older games and its just one commentator

not just in footy but lots of other sports, its like your listening in on a conversation, rather than being told whats happening.

Spot on.

I don't need someone talking over an action replay telling me how the ball went in the net. I watch football to simply watch football, I couldn't care less what some ex pro's opinion on zonal marking is.

They used to have 2nd commentators for big internationals and European games in the 80's (Keegan, Ian St John, Jimmy Hill etc) but they would only give their opinions when the main commentator asked them for it

which was about twice a game.

Guest The Big Green Bastard

Im all for slagging off ex players who helped us through those trophy laden years.

I don't two poo's what he is like as a commentator, as long as he is lfc i don't give one. The more ex LFC that become pundits the better regardless of journalistic quality, better than the shower of shite that sky have had recently with their m/w ankathon.

Negged.
