Good to see you're feeling the thread madstock. Is it just me that thinks Tom Waits in unutterably shite?

From Del Shannon we go to DEL amitri who are for Scotland, as are up and coming band EL Presidente, Drugstore did a song with Thom Yorke called El Presidente, Thom Yorke also collaborated with PJ Harvey on "The state we're in", which leads us to:

PJ Harvey shares initials with leviathons of pop, PJ and Duncan (yes, I did have the piss ripped out of me) - AKA gurning, northern M&W wanabees, and spoilers of Saturday tea-time telly, Ant and Dec.

Before Ant and Dec came along, we could only rely on Cilla Black to ruin weekends when seeking solace in the box.

As Cilla Black was originally Priscilla White, The Selecter lead singer Pauline Black was originally called Pauline Vickers.

"The Selecter" was originally the name of an instrumental which was the B-Side of the first Two-Tone release, which was Gangsters, by the Specials (which in itself was a tribute to Al Capone by Prince Buster, although he has already featured on the thread)

The Specials also released "A Message To You Rudy" with Rico

Great tracks from Vladi and Cochcaer, not heard much stuff by Evertlast but everything I have heard I've liked.

Okay, We take Black Jesus and go to Jay-Z's the Black album, which was re-mixed by Dangermouse with the Beatles White Album to create the grey album, which leads us to an acoustic version of a White Album song:

The White Album's Dear Prudence was covered by Siouxsie & The Banshees. Siouxsie Sioux was also in the background for The Sex Pistol's infamous Bill Grundy interview.

A pistol is a gun, Uncle Junior uses guns to kill mofos, killing is murder, here is the awesome live version of I Want A Lot Now by the Murder City Devils on Halloween two thousand and something (their final ever show). Halloween is TK421's birthday.

Halloween is supposed to be scary, in fact some people say it can scare the shit out of them. People who shit themselves at scary things have loose shitters, just like people who enjoy receiving bum-love. Bum-Love has it's fans and critics, but one person who probably likes it is Michael Stipe, from R.E.M., who sang about losing his religion. Loss of faith can be a downer for some people, but you have to have it, according to George Michael, who later in his career was arrested for cottaging, which is procurement of gaymosexual activities in toilets. Toilets are scary places, in fact there is nothing more sinister than a public toilet with the seat down. Some people use the cisterns of toilets in club to snort coke, which can lead to some rather dodgy Cocaine Decisions.

Frank Zappa also encapsulates the already oft-mentioned-in-this-thread-rodent in "Hot Rats" - get the vinyl, not the CD as the remixing is woeful in places.

Another Zappa release that features mixing problems and indeed animals is The Yellow Shark.

In West Side Story (still the greatest musical of all time), the warring factions were the Sharks and the Jets.

Maria Callas played the female lead in the film version of WSS, and also shone in Tosca

Maria was the name of the most recent single from Blondie, Blondie have an album called Parallel lines, Parallel lines was the name of a song by Shed Seven, Shed Seven did a song called "She left me on Friday", TGI Friday is a common chain of bars, as is the Chicago Rock Cafe which leads us to:

Chicago is also called The Windy City, a known cause of adverse weather conditions is the hurricane. Hurricane #1 was a short-lived band featuring Andy Bell formerly of shoegazers Ride. (look out for a very ginger Alan McGhee of Creation in this clip)

Chicago is home to many irish immigrants and of course Ireland has produced some of the most succesful musicians ever. One band who had the world at their feet were Whipping Boy. They released a debut album entitled Heartworm. It was an underground success and sony signed them to a 5 album deal. They then fell into dispute with sony and refused to record an album under their label while sony refused to break the contract. It was 1994 they made their breakthrough. The lyrics and melody are a joy to behold. Here's a song that Lou Reed said 'If 'We Don't Need Nobody Else' isn't a huge hit, I knows nothing about music'.

Goodness me, what a very good thread this is.

Okay, picking up on Whipping Boy, I am confident that a whipping boy is almost certainly also blue boy. Blue Boy was a rather marvellous song by the mighty Orange Juice. And here is probably their most well known 'hit' 'Rip it Up', in all it's priceless 80s vintage ToTP glory.

A must for all who believe that smartarse Scottish pop begins with Franz Ferdinand.

Orange Juice of course first appeared on Alan Horne's Postcard Records label - a vehicle for new, young Scottish bands - "The Sound of Young Scotland". Prime candidates amongst them being Josef K, who split amidst the fallout of Postcard's demise, as the likes of Orange Juice and Aztec Camera headed for pastures new and the majors, leaving singer Paul Haig to try his luck as a solo artist. He even bruised the low ends of the top 75 with alternative 80's floor filler, Heaven Sent. Seen here though performing Justice in 1981.

The Haig fund was a charity set up in 1921 by Douglas Haig to help British Servicemen after the war.

The year 1921 also featured in the album Tommy, by legendary rockers The Who. The opening line of the song "1921" was the lyric "So you think '21 is going to be a good year.

Good Year is one the worlds largest tyre and rubber companies, and although you may think the company was founded by Charles Goodyear, the inventor of vucanized rubber, it was just named in his honour by the two german immigrants.

Being vulcanized may bring to mind the transformation into a Vulcan just like Dr.Spock (Leonard Nimmoy) who was one of the leading characters alongside Captain Kirk (William Shatner) in the space-opera Star Trek.

Good Year, Star Trek and vulcanization, which brings me neatly to William Shatner singing Frank Sinatras "It Was a Very Good Year"..

Jackie Milburn was Newcastle's all time record scorer until Shearer overtook him last season. However, my grandad once told me that he was a jammy bastard and most of his goal bobbled in after bouncing off his Shin.

Some nice laid back vibes there Vladi. Is it just me that thinks Milburn should really be down on their knees thanking god for placing them in the same city at the same time as the Arctic Monkeys?

The Shins are named after a bone in the body, Elbow are also named after a bone in the body, Elbow have done a famously great version of Independant women by Destiny's Child, Destiny's Child's first single No, No, No featured Wyclef Jean, Wyclef Jean was a member of The Fugees, which leads us to:

The Fugees Lauryn Hill has long been at the centre of racist rumours that she'd prefer it if white people didn't buy her music. Eminem inserted the lyric 'Bought Lauryn Hill's tape so her kids could starve' on his track Cum on Everybody. Cum on Feel the Noize was a hit for 70s glamsters Slade and has also been covered by Oasis.

Oasis have appeared on Jools Holland music shows on numerous occasions. They are well recognised for doing accoustic concerts when liam isn't in the mood. He couldn't feel the groove. Someone who had his very own groove was David Bowie and this is my favourite Bowie tune live..

Hasty edit to adapt to quicker post:

David Bowie did a track called Heroes, Gene did a track called "We could be heroes"; We could be giants was the name of a band who did "Birdhouse in your soul"; Oasis did an album called Standing on the shoulder of giant; Noel Gallacher worked on "Keep what you got" with Ian Brown; Ian Brown worked on "Reign", amongst other tracks, with UNKLE; UNKLE are comprised of DJ Shadow and James Lavelle; which leads us to:

Rondeco gets the award so far for least arsed connection - "Erm Oasis play music, so does Bowie...so here we go!" ;)

An Uncle is a family relation, the brother of your mum or dad. Another relation is your sister. Sisters of Mercy were an 80s goth band led by Andrew Eldritch. Their final album, Vision Thing, featured Tony James on bass guitar; James had earlier been a member of cyberpunk samplers:
