I did say it was strange..........United and Liverpool both won titles with relatively poor teams or maybe good teams just in 2nd gear imo because they often played with a major advantage that teams came on to the pitch already beaten - Arsenal's invincibles had the exact opposite problem - everybody wanted to be the first to beat them which makes their achievement remarkable - albeit in a not very competitive league

United now have the problem that they have to be better than their title winning teams not just because of chelsea but because they have lost that air of invincibility

Chelsea are fast developing that advantage of teams going out already beaten - some teams have even rested players against them

Arsenal imo have never enjoyed that type of advantage they have never dominated the game the way we or united ever did

only a small point really but in order to remain a competition if Chelsea have both the financial and psychological advantage then winning the Prem will be doubly difficult not because we may not be a better team than them but because other teams will fight harder against us.

With that in mind its vital that we try to make sure everybody thinks they are in with a chance and debunk the myth that Chelsea are that superior to everybody else - they are a good side but they like united and us in the past have had their fair share of luck this year and last

The 'aura of invincibility' can by its nature only apply to one team at a time.......

Does this make a bit more sense than my first post - I'm unsure having re-read it.....

No offence, but thats the most baffling thing I've ever heard!

It is what my missus is going through. Supported United all her life, used to go all the time in the 80's. then they stopped being a football club and became purely a brand. For Chelsea fans it must be 100 times worse becuase this is not based on money made from success, it is dodgy money robbed from countries in turmoil. It taints everything they do. It is like turning up at a party with a fit hooker and showing off about your "date".

yeah its like i said, I suppose you'd only really know if you were in that position. Having profound success and having a rotten footballing soul are different things though, its a shame these two clubs have made them inextricably linked.

She comes from a United family. Her dad has completely stopped watching football and one of his mates has even bought a city season ticket. When they took the words football club off the badge that was it for them. My wife keeps a half hearted interest in it because of Ferguson. When he goes that'll be it I reckon. The other day i got her to name the players she likes in the current United squad and the players she likes in Liverpool, off the top of my head it was

Rooney, Scholes, Neville, Heintze, Van der Saar, O'Shea and Fletcher was "OK"

there were loads more in the Liverpool squad, particularly the crouchmeister, Garcia and Riise
