  1. 1. What do you think of Brendan Rodgers?

    • I despise him
    • even when we were playing great last season, I couldn't stand him
    • he deserves as much credit as anyone for last season
    • he was lucky last season
    • I want him out
    • I hold him responsible for our poor signings this season
    • I have always been embarrassed listening to his interviews
    • he's an excellent manager
    • I love him
    • he gets until at least the end of the season
    • defensively he hasn't a clue
    • last season was down to Suarez
    • I don't mind his chat
    • he overachieved last season
    • he's wasted £100m+ and doesn't deserve another penny
    • he needs backing from the board and money for players in January
    • I trust him to turn it around
    • if we return to playing something close to last seasons football I'll give him another season
    • sack him now, install an interim manager and get simeone, klopp or someone in the summer
    • get rafa now
  2. 2. Should Rodgers be sacked immediately?

A tad simplistic as it's a combination of things he's said, how he's said it, and body language, and over 20 years experience of dealing with people not telling the truth. But essentially correct.

And you're talking about the man here, not the manager?

If the former can I ask what personal dealings you have had with him? And if the latter you can't just put it down to being economical with the truth as being part and parcel of a football managers job?

Rodgers isnt the first and wont be the last Liverpool manager who's told porkies to the media and players or done something sneaky for whatever reason.

Shankly never told St John he was dropped at Newcastle and just pinned the team to the wall and walked out the dressing room (according to him anyway). Sir Bob was always telling Fairclough he was starting a game next week. Did anyone seriously believe Ged when he said Robbie's goal line sniffing was a new goal celebration?

Come on people.

No personal dealings. It is possible to form an opinon of someone from watching how they behave without being stood next to them.

Of course it is, and I get someone saying they can't take to him or he comes across as a bit of a knob sometimes. But to say you think someone is a liar on a personal level (if that is what you're saying) based on his public face as a football manager is quite ridiculous.

Why? We judge people all the time in the way they present themselves. And not just in personal interaction, but in what they do and say publicly.

I'm in the fortunate position of having no fucking clue what you are talking about here, Setreal.

Is this also tv wizardry?

I was - clumsily - equating diagnoisng somebody as a pathological liar on account of body language to phrenology, via that old Simpsons quote seen here:

So you think it's normal to say someone is a liar on a personal level without actually knowing them on a personal level?

I think I can make a judgement call for myself. Yes. Why not. It's not like I'm forcing my view on anyone, it's purely my own view. For instance, I've not met Tony Blair, but my view is that the man is both a liar and a chancer. Again. Based on his behaviour and his actions.

Again of course you can and I'm not for one minute suggesting you're forcing it on anyone, I'm just saying it's quite senseless and open to ridicule.

I know plenty of people who don't particularly like Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool Manager. But I don't think I've heard a single one remark on what they think he's like in private.

I think Jose Mourinho is an absolute cock, but do I think he behaves that way with his family? No. I agree with you on Tony Blair, but I've no reason to believe that spills over into his private life.

I really don't understand your point, Moo. If you agree about Blair, then how does it not spread into his private life? If he's lied then he is a liar. If he was a chancer then he was - he and Cherie were notorious freebie hunters.

I'm not suggesting Rodgers strolls about telling porkies every time he opens his mouth. But I do think he can be disingenuous and has, on occasion, strayed into porkie territory. Put that together with a definite lack of hubris and I'm not fussed on him.

Perhaps I'm not understanding your point, but I did ask a couple of times exactly what you meant.

My point is that it's not hard, and I think is quite normal, to differentiate between how someone behaves in their public role and how they might behave in their private life on a personal level.

It's an opinion Tom, nobody's swallowing anything, they're just mature enough to accept it may be different from their own.

Though I will add, BBN, I am not disputing Anubis' opinion because i have no idea if Rodgers - the man - is a liar or not. I don't know him and I don't have Anubis' magical ability to read people through the tv.

A fundamental character trait doesn't magically disappear in a person's private life if it manifests in public, and as such I don't beleive people are so vastly different in public and private as you clearly do. I don't see either of us changing our views on that any time soon.

As for the magic Tom, I'm sorry you didn't make the cut for Hogwarts. You can't all be as lucky as me.
