I have a firestick but recently upgraded to a smart TV which already has the Amazon app on it so might get a Pi 3

Easy to set up and get going?

Yeah. Download this

https://osmc.tv/download/

Put your SD card in the PC and then run it and it installs it on the card

Take card out, put it in Pi and turn it on.

It's easier than a Fire Stick but you do have to put it in a case which takes about 10 seconds.

You already have a Fire TV Stick and a Smart TV for Kodi though. I guess the Pi is better for stuff like plugging in a hard drive but you should be alright streaming anyway.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Kodi 17 is fucking BOSS!

It's taken me ages pissing around with it to even get it to run because the of missing .dll files (even though they were there) and database's with nothing in them corrupting it to the point it wouldn't launch.

Finally got it working but does anyone know any good builds?

I use MCKTV, It has a lot on as well as the usual ones.  Well supported, auto clears the Cache etc when you load it up.

Same. Infact almost identical.

I use StreamTVBox instead of Sportsmania as my HD paid sub, SALTS for more obscure films, and The Alpha for my 4k feeds.

Takes 10 minutes to install that lot.

Cheers, i always have the usual suspects as add ons anyway exodus salts and Phoenix (rarely use the last two) but you occasionally get a decent build.

As an aside does anyone find using 17.1 (windows 10) with a mouse is shit and the menus jump around?

Cheers, found it. Had a look at some of them but the quality is pretty poor I reckon. I scrolled down and tried a couple of older ones and while they were a bit better it still wasn't very good. Avatar for example, looks boss on 3D DVD but rubbish on Kodi.

I don't have a 3D telly so was curious.

Interestingly, I find the 4k stuff equally as patchy. Some of it looks tremendous but other films (Avatar especially) don't look anywhere near as good. The difference between Goodfellas and Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade was vast.

I guess as time goes on, and more films are filmed in true 4k rather than being upscaled (like Avatar, Goodfellas and Indy) then the quality should be more apparent.

Should be...

You mentioning 4k has jogged my memory about something I read a while ago. Apparently it won't work properly through a Firestick and that's what I'm using so maybe it's similar with the 3D movies. Maybe if I had a more powerful box it would work better.

I don't think I've ever even watched anything in 4k. The boy bought one for his bedroom the other week and all I've seen of it is when I play him at FIFA and PES. The resolution looks great but I'm pretty sure that's not in 4k either because you need a PS Pro for it to work.

I've heard that about Firesticks and some of the less powerful devices too.

I've got my older Minix box upstairs in the loft, it's hooked up to the projector but the projector can only show 1080p images at best.

If I can be arsed I'll switch it around later on and see how it runs on the 4k telly.
