Worst thing about working nights though, when your neighbours are having building work done during the day. Like mine are now. Not only am I going to be knackered tonight but it looks like a big job so I reckon they'll be back tomorrow and I'll get no sleep then either. Cunts.

Night shift workers love to you. As I type there's a chainsaw going off at my neighbours and I was just thinking how glad I was I wasnt on night shift last night

Edit. Bloody hell, they're coming after me now. What a bloody racket

As we always say, its not the shift itself, its the before or after that kills you

Chemicals you work with isn't it...

Yeah. A spark on a chemical yard.

I need a bloody night off. 1 more night after tonight and I can relax. I still regret nothing though, how do people put up with 2 day weekends every week? Eugh.

Couldn't do it. Terrible business.

Well tonight's the night, I'm starting my first night shift (10/8) for about 10 years.

I'm after some advice as to eating & sleep patterns so fire away..

Eat around fourish this afternoon and get a couple of hours kip after.

The first night is always the hardest but they're better than days once you've got into them.

I was thinking of having a few hours sleep around 2ish this afternoon & a biggish dinner around 7!, but tomorrow is worrying me more, do I go to bed when I get in tomorrow morning, or wait until later in the day?

Csnt really help with them hours as I worked 6-6 but I always found the summer months harder. Need the window open for cool air but then the added noise and light always ended up waking at 1pm which led to a long day. In the winter id be out of it from 8-4.

Personally I found the second night the hardest. The first one was just like staying uo late but id end up overtired and only sleeping 3-4 hrs that day so the 2nd night was a killer.8hr shifts should be a piece of cake though. Dont drink coffee or anything with sugar after 2/3am on that shift as ut will be easier to get some sleep after. Having said that depends if you are planning finishing at 6 and straight to bed or staying up till 10-12 and sleeping till 6-8pm and then work

Im finishing at 8, so I'm thinking 12 till about 6 should be right! although the last time i worked nights I was in my 20s & didnt ever get much sleep, my only fear is getting up too early through the week & having to wait an age to go back into work.

You'll be going in shattered mate, you want to have a chance to have a kip but get up and have a shower so you're not going into work still yawning and half asleep.

When you get home have some food, a shower, watch a bit of telly and stay up till gone half nine, let all the cars in your street fuck off before trying to get some sleep. Remember it's your evening so if you want a beer there's nothing wrong with that.

I find having a quiet constant noise in the background when you go to bed far better than silence, any phone going off, car door shutting etc will disturb you then. Put the radio on quietly, either 5live or classic fm are the best I find.

Didnt see times you are working. Id probably try going to bed around 11am and get up around 4-6pm. Shower, food etc.

If you swim or go gym or anything you can always do it before work which is good or on the way home and stay up later. I prefer sleeping right up until I have to go and just get up and get a shower and leave and eat at work but I work twelve hours.

You'll soon fall into a routine if you are on permanent nights anyway.
