I think today proved that Maxi should start every game. We always look far more balanced and less prone to by pass the midfield with him in the line up. And although Agger and Aurelio did nothing special, it helped tremendously bringing in three players whose first instinct is to keep it on the ground.

Nice to see a bit of fight in the second half and in the end we deserved the win. I just wish we would start matches how we started the second half.

It just goes to show that when we get it down, pick passes, and play a bit of football instead of launching it route 1, we can actually create a few chances.

Having Fabio in there made a massive difference but then I'm hardly surprised by that.

It wasn't vintage and we're still a million miles from where we all want to be but credit where it's due, we battled and put Bolton under pressure and actually overturned a deficit for once. I don't recalling us doing that under Roy.

For me, Joe Cole has to be starting every match now. He's too good a player to be sat on the bench and we will be a much better side with him, Stevie, Maxi and Nando working together. I thought Dirk, despite his efforts, was pretty substandard again. He's a yard off the pace and is simply giving the ball away far too much.

Nando looked a different player second half, and Stevie in particular was showing signs of his best form too. His delivery was exceptional and I don't think it's a co-incidence that Nando perked up when Stevie began to find his range again. They linked up well.

Ultimately though, we should not allow today's victory to paper over the cracks. The celebrations at the end show just how much we have fallen really. It's time for a change now.

I'm not sure that Maxi has much of an impact away from Anfield to be honest - he's a different and more involved player on home soil, but in away games he's usually utterly marginal to proceedings.

Those balls passing 80 yards over his head may have something to do with it.
