IAN Rush today signed back on with Liverpool – as a globe trotting ambassador for the Reds.

Anfield legend Rush, who became the club’s greatest ever goalscorer after signing for £300,000 from Chester City in 1980, has agreed to become Liverpool’s new Soccer Schools Ambassador.

It means that arguably Liverpool’s most famous strike partnership – Rush and Kenny Dalglish – are now both on the books at Anfield again following Dalglish’s appoint- ment last year to a role at the club’s Academy in Kirkby.

St Asaph-born Rush, 48, who struck 346 times in 660 games and is now a qualified UEFA pro licence holder, will also work with the club's commercial team to help develop and support partnerships with other world renowned sponsors and brands.

Ian Ayre, Liverpool FC’s Commercial Director, said today: “Rushie is one of the best known names in world football and I’m delighted he's agreed to work with us.

“We’ve invested heavily in the redevelopment of our Soccer Schools business and with his help intend to roll out a global franchising opportunity within the next 12 months.

“We are already in discussion with a number of interested organisations around the world and Ian will work closely with our dedicated team of executives in developing these Soccer Schools opportunities.

Rush said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be involved with the club again and hope the contacts I already have in the football and coaching community will allow us to move forward quickly.

“My role is to provide the technical input into the development of the Soccer Schools programme and just as importantly help our business team to assess the quality of the franchised operations and the standard of the courses being offered under the Liverpool badge to kids around the world.

He added: “It’s really great to be asked back. I think it is the way forward and I’m looking forward to working with everyone.

“When I was asked in 2000 to go to China. I realised then just how big Liverpool Football Club is. I’ve travelled the Far East extensively since and only when you see the fanaticism there is do you realise just how big Liverpool Football Club is all over the world.

Rush also paid tribute to managing Director Christian Purslow and Commercial Durector Ian Ayre, saying there’s a great team there looking to take the club forward and it will be a great honour to be part of it once again.”

The man who thought Italy was like a foreign country is going to be our globe trotting ambassador?! Ace.

It is funny, but apparantly he never actually said that. Read somewhere last year that it was made up.

Great to have him back. Don't think he'll offer very much in teh grand scheme of things, but nice to have him and the King back at the club.

I only think I read it somewhere, so until I can prove it without question (I won't be making any effort to do that) then it remains 100% true!

It was Dalglish that said it, when asked what Rushie thought of life abroad. Dalglish said it for a laugh, and it stuck in Liverpool folklore.
