Anyone in Liverpool at a loose end on Saturday should definitely go & check out The Franceens. They're playing at District, if you know it. They played with my lad's band in Hull on Friday. Three piece from York with a girl on bass & backing vocals which gives them quite a unique sound. Loud, tuneful and great fun.

This is terrible quality both audio and visually but you get the idea. Go see them. Support live music.

Papa Roach - Black Clouds

This is what some people might consider "emo", but it shows two things for me personally. It shows how the mind of the lyric writer was well beyond the ramblings of so many other bands at the time (2002), it was to the heart. (instead of being emotional for the sake of it.) And secondly, it actually shows, if you listen enough, the quality of the band as a whole.

I always had a soft spot for this band. The singer was willing to put his internal issues right out there, but equally : they had a fucking great group of musicians that would often turn those lyrics, and those vocals, into a song that worked. (which is where many others clearly failed.) Many people would probably say that the band was shite, but that's why we're here partly I guess; because we don't agree with what most people think. Anyway, I loved this band, but like AFI, it seems that they got into a style that I couldn't follow as time went on. Respect to them for what they did at the start either way.
